Eek! Orange/Green hair!

Hi all!

Just wondered if anyone had any advice regarding my latest conundrum.

My hair had been Directions Turquoise/Alpine green for ages and this last time I decided that no I would fade it out and try something else and really fancied Directions Apricot/Mandarin.

So I had used many different fading techniques and I had really gotten a lot of it out!

I was down to a very pale blue/green and used a box of Scott Cornwall Colour B4 Fashion Colour. This took a lot of the blue out but so I was left with a very light mint colour. Now I think that what I was left with was probably mostly cuticle staining because I was purple for ages before the turquoise and I know it stained my hair.

So to try and tone my hair I put a pot of Mandarin mixed with conditioner in my hair and left it for like an hour then blow dried it a bit and washed it out. Now I have a very interesting but unintended "autumn leaves" look.

Am I right in thinking that I should use non-pink based red on the green areas to tone them out? I don't actually have any directions in a colour like that and the only thing I will be able to get on short notice is CC Vermillion Red. Would that work?

I've added a picture of the blue before the colour remover and the result post-mandarin!

I don't actually hate the orange/green but the majority of my coworkers are slightly terrified and my mother is not happy! haha!

The problem with Mandarin is, it's just not a strong pigment. So putting it over a blue, which is the opposite of orange on the colour wheel, isn't going to work well.

Were you aiming for a strong orange or a subtle? Over blue a subtle orange isn't going to work. But if you're up for a stronger orange, which I think you'll have to do, go for an SFX orange and dilute it.

I was definitely wanting a strong pigment but thought I would need to neutralize first before colouring again to get to the colour I actually wanted.

Are Hi-Octane and Napalm the only strong oranges that would work?

Just because I live in the UK so SFX isn't really an option! πŸ™
