Dying my hair red

You can have red color correction and get your hair dye if needed

Am going to try and answer the best i can but i havent used red in a very long time so i may be wrong.

" I have some pots of directions : tangerine, vermillion red, poppy red."- I would rule out the poppy red as it has pink undertones. you want an orange red so tangerine and vermillion might work well.

" I'm pondering to buy some of the brown reddish hues from adore and mix with some of the directions colour. Would that work?"- i am not sure if a reddish brown would be ideal, but maybe something like the cajun spice which is more of a burnt orange may be a good base color.

"Is there any red dark semipermament dye that would cover it?"- semi permanent colors will not stick to unbleached/unprocessed hair. you will need to open up the cuticle in some way to get the color to stick.

"The alternative is to bleach it. I don't have any bleach and feel it's safer to use lightning box dye"- this is not correct, box dyes are just as damaging as bleach because they are bleach. They lighten the hair and then deposit color into the hair. Some of the blond ones are even worse than bleach because they tend to come with 40 vol peroxide which is, in my opinion, too strong for use near the scalp. I would never use 40 vol full stop and with box dyes, you cannot tell the strength of the peroxide so you are risking damage each time you use it. Bleach is easier to control as you can pick the powder and the peroxide volume you want. you can also get sensitive scalp bleach, etc.

"What would you do? Try to find a dark red to cover the after growth or lighten it?"- your hair is not very dark so a quick bleach would work fine, or even a bleach bath and then using semipermanent dyes for the color. Alternatively, some people who go red use a permanent red the first time and then top up with semi permanent color. Once you have dyed it red, you only need to use the permanent dye when you want to color the regrowth (on the roots only) and the rest is redyed with the semi permanent again.
