Whats the best dye to use on a moustache? I want it to be a very bright colour.  Any suggestions on how to bleach it as well?  Thanks Guys!  Its for Movember...  🙂

Just as a side thought - we have a few photos of dyed facial hair pics from people in the gallery just now but would it be helpful to others if I created a specific facial hair section in the gallery?  It's not something the dyes were designed for but many people dye beards etc no problem and I can set up a section if there was a big enough demand for it - it would take a few hours to set up so wanted to check people would want one before starting on it.
Let me know feedback please 🙂

This is the first time I have been on the forum but I'm guessing it would be helpful for guys to see other dyed beards before they make a choice on colour and brand.  Cheers Nickki!

Don't laugh when I mention this, it's not a personal attack on your face either but... pubic hair dye. Now pick yourself up off the floor for the science bit.

Facial hair has a similar construction to pubes which makes it hard to dye. It's not impossible and as Nickki said there are plenty of people who have used regular hair dye with great results but Betty dyes for "hair down there" will colour your beard and moustache hairs just as well as they dye the hairs that they're intended for.

Betty has black, blonde, auburn, brown and pink colours to choose from. If you check out their website there's a video from the company owner about how the dye can also be used on beards and facial hair too.

Hope that helps.

The dyes we sell are not designed for facial hair but many people do this with no problems. I would avoid bleaching face if possible but if you do need to then use a face bleach like Jolene (available online or from Superdrug, Boots etc) and follow instructions carefully. Try to avoid contact with the skin as these dyes can stain alot but any marks should be removed fairly easily with a facial wipe or similar (although it may need some rubbing). These dyes can bleed/rub off alot at first so I would make sure you really wash out as much of the excess dye as possible.

Hey Guys,  thank you so much for your hints.  I used the Love Betty product in the end and all went well.  I beached my mo before dyeing it using the lightener that comes in the pack.  I had no problems with hurting my face.  I even managed to beach it twice with no problems.  As suggested I used Vaseline to mask the area around my mo that I didn't want to stain.

If you would like to donate to The Prostate Charity (which is the reason I have this ridiculous thing on my face!) you can do so by going onto the UK Movember website and searching for 'Hairy Potter VFX' team.

I couldn't have looked this absurd without all your helpful hints... so thank you!    😀

I have dark brown hair (with a few white hairs), and one of my zany ideas came into my head, so here it is.....

What colour would work for a moustache and beard?

Its not really long (on a number 2 cut) and i dont want soemthing that is going to discolour my skin as i might be shaving in off in Spring.

Bright and crazy is good, but so is understated and subtle 🙂

(shame i cant get a dark colour that turns into glow in the dark 😮 ;D)

Hi, welcome to the forum 😀

There was a recent similar thread on here that may help you - dyeing a moustache
Do you have any colour preferences in mind?  Most of the lighter or brighter shades work best on a light base colour so you may need to bleach first to get a really bright result, but that said good darker results can be achieved with some colours and brands without bleaching, it really depends on the shade your tash is just now.  There are quite a few UV dyes around that glow under blacklight etc but these would still tend to be bright in normal light and most would need a fairly light base colour to get a true neon/uv result.

I am still in the process of setting up a facial hair section in the Hair Dye Gallery although must admit there are only a few photos of dyed beards and moustaches to go in there so it wont be very full to start with, but I will post on here once the new section is added.

If you need to get your beard lighter then I can recommend Jolen Facial Bleach. It's very gentle and made specifically for facial areas that are more sensitive. If you need to bleach to get a lighter result then you should try this stuff. It's really cheap and you don't need much so you won't be wasting your cash if you decide never to do it again.
