Hello! I'm new here! Long time reader!
My hair is currently tangerine orange. I absolutely love it. I love it more than I ever thought I would... and my sister is getting married in September. I initially totally thought dying my hair back to my natural dark brown would not be an issue, but now it is for me. And now I'm sad.
SO... who better to ask before I give up all hope, than you lovely ladies!
If I used a semi-permanent brown, would it cover my hair enough to get away with it for the wedding and would it lift easily enough?
If I used a permanent brown, would I essentially lose all of my hair trying to get back to tangerine again?
Any and all help or experience would be the absolute best here. I'm not ready to part ways with my ginger locks!
you sound like me, last year!! my little sister was getting married, and i wanted to have a more natural hair color for her wedding pictures, but i *so* did not want to cause any damage or make it impossible to get back to my brights.
permanent dye can be removed, but you do risk damage and staining. semi's would be a better bet.
as for me, i ended up fading my green as much as i could with dandruff shampoo and a box of color remover, and then i gradually went full on blonde using a series of weekly bleach baths. blonde is a natural hair color, after all!
i started about two months in advance, and i looked pretty fabulous in time for her pictures. then afterward, i didn't have to worry about removing an unwanted dark color, and was immediately able to try out some pastels!
I'm so delighted you found a way to sneak your hair back to your most favourite state. I love happy endings. Oh and I'm sure the wedding was great too! π
I would definitely have to go brown though. I don't suit blonde. Do you think a semi brown would work? And would it lift easily so I can go back to my neon delights? It's so frustrating thinking I might ruin my delightful hair!
I'm considering buying a wig!
well, i would think orange is one of the easier colors to cover with a brunette semi. but i've honestly never used one, personally, so i don't know specifically which to recommend to you. i know that adore has a good range, though, and from what i've read, it seems like they rinse out fairly quickly. maybe someone with more specific experience with natural semis would be better suited to help. i just wanted to offer you another option!
Can't you wear a wig? You can get some very natural looking ones for aroundΒ£30
Is there a reason why you have to dye it a natural color? (I.e your sister asked)
My cousin got married two years ago and when i told him that my mom had asked me to dye it black, he said not to bother going to his wedding unless i had my funky colored hair. That i wouldn't look right otherwise.
If you absolutely have to dye then i also suggest semi dyes
If you have to natural, does it have to be brown? What about a deep ginger, which is more more natural than tangerine orange, but will have the orange base so that you can quickly take it back?
absolutely definitely get a wig. I couldn't dye my hair for someone's wedding. I know that seems selfish but if they're asking for you to be a part of it they shouldn't care. they can get black and white photos done π
I also think a wig is probably the way to go, it would be such a shame to ruin your hair colour.

I agree, i don't think anyone should make you change your style. I'd get a wig, no way would I dye it for something like this
if you put a semi brown dye over the orange (i would suggest adore) it will just tone down the orange and be a more natural version, it wont be flat brown as your putting it on a very orange base, after the wedding and it fades just top it up with the orange again and it should brighten it back up.
Thanks for everyones input!
I guess I always go back to brown in between all of my hair adventures, so it would be considered my "hair colour" if that makes sense. I talked about it with my mom and she thinks a wig is a good idea too because she likes my orange hair but thinks it's too much for the wedding (I think I kinda agree too). I was never asked to change my colour. I just thought I'd be over my hair being orange by then, but did not expect to love it this much!
Any recs for places to get wigs? I've seen a few nice ones close to my natural hair on geisha wigs. Are they easy to style/wash etc? Thanks again for everyones help! π
geisha wigs are good but both my orders were messed up and delayed. I'd have a look on eBay there's some really good UK based ones. if you do go for geisha wigs make sure they're "in stock" on the site.
I went to two weddings, as a guest/photographer with my bright pink hair and it wasn't a problem. I think you should rock it.
