I used to think they lasted until you opened them but have noticed on crazy colour dyes they have a useby date of 2012 is it the same for manic panic? I have some old dyes and dont know whether to use them or not.
I'm not sure, though its 1 year after opening for special effects I think, Nikki will probably know as one of the SE colours can't be imported as it doesn't last long enough! I have had a pot of fuschia shock MP open for a couple of years and it still fine if that helps, best thing is to look at it...if it looks odd, has changed colour or stays seperated after you shake it probably not a good idea..or test a bit on tissue, that helps show up oddness!
To comply with EU Regulations on these type of products Special Effects, Manic Panic, Directions, Crazy Color & Stargazer Semi-Perm Hair Dyes should last at least 30 months from date of manufacture (shelf-life). Once opened these dyes should last a minimum of 12 months with no adverse reactions to hair providing they are securely sealed after each use and stored away from extreme heat or cold and sunlight etc (Crazy Color is excluded from this 12 months once-opened time as its considered a one-use dye by the manufacturer). More info on these dyes can be seen in our Hair Dye FAQ section on Beeunique.
Note, this is the minimum length of time the dyes should last so chances are they will be fine after these times within reason but if the dye has been standing for a while unused always shake/stir it before use to ensure an even mix of colour in the dye as the pigments can separate and settle over time, and always try a strand test as although the dyes may look fine the results can vary the older the dye is.
I know Nickki has to say this as she has to say what Manic Panic et al say but I have used dyes long after this and only difference is some colours look different on the hair to the normal fresh dye colour. The more pastel or lighter the shade the quicker it seems to look different over time IMO
I have used MP like 3 years after I bought it lol. It was fine, just a bit clumpy :O
