Directions - Will it work?

Hey everybody

I plan to use Directions, this is the first time I ever do something like that, so I got a few Questions πŸ˜‰

1. As I was at the salon I asked the hairdresser about that topic and she said that my hair is a bit to dark to use a blue color, but I dont want to make something permanent so I thougt I ask you again, what do you think? http://m.imgur.com/dbzXg4U
Also, would a "Pre-Coloring" shampoo help?
The blue is not really bright (Midnight Blue)

2. How hard is it to get it right?
Or better, how easy is it to do something wrong? Is it possible for me to even get it right on first try?

3. Do I need something special that might be useful? For no I would just order the color the pre shampoo and a brush.

Thank you all πŸ™‚

All direct dyes are translucent, the colour of your hair underneath (your base) will show through and affect the final outcome. The colours you see on the swatches are over a fully bleached lightest blonde base. Blues are tricky, because even if you want a dark blue you don't want brown showing through as brown and blue make a horrible sludgey colour.
So even if you like the colour to begin with it will look more and more muddy every time you wash.
So ideally you will need to bleach your hair to at least a golden blonde (as evenly as possible) for a dark blue.
The other issue with applying these types of colours to unbleached hair is that it is difficult to get them to stick. The hair needs to be at least a little processed, so the dye can fully penetrate.
You can try a strand test to see if you will like the colour you get, and have a look at the 'unbleached' gallery to see some colours over natural hair. Other shades such as reds, pinks and purples are generally a better choice over a darker base.
