I've been toning the blonde part of my ombre hair with Directions Violet heavily diluted with white conditioner.. but I reeaaally want to just dye it full undiluted violet for a while!
The only thing holding me back in my clip in extensions, they match my hair perfectly and I spent quite a lot of money on them and really want to get more use out of them in the future. Will the Violet fade completely and take me back to the blonde I have now? How long will it take? I wash my hair quite frequently.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
There's no guarantee of getting either your hair or the extensions back to the original colour. I'm guessing your actual hair will handle more intense fading treatments than the extensions so there is more of a chance for your hair to get back to the base colour.
You could get some cheaper extensions for the violet hair if you don't intend it to be a permanent colour change? Then you wouldn't have to mess up the matched ones.
I should have mentioned I was just talking about my own hair, I just want to be able to use my extensions again after the colour has faded π
That's a pretty good idea, I'll have a look on ebay for some cheap ones I can use. Or just wear it short for a while, I just fancy something different and fun over the summer.
I've done a little purple streak so I'll just see how it fades and decide from there!
Thank you muchly π
Generally violet/lilac shades fade to silver then back to blonde. However, there is always the possibility that it will stain and be really difficult to remove. Blue based purples generally go green when bleached, so there is no shortcut to getting it out.
If you want a short term commitment use the dye diluted, and only leave it in your hair for a short time. Using conditioner prior to dyeing will also help it to be more temporary
Strand testing is the best way to know for sure, as different hair holds on to the colour differently
Thank you Wicked Pixie!
Is this true for directions Violet and are there any other true violet shades you would recommend to avoid the blue/green?
Directions Violet, Lilac, plum and neon blue definitely bleach green, TBH all blue based purples will. If you use a pink based purple (SFX Deep/pimpin purple, adore Violet Gem etc ) they are likely to bleach pink rather than green.
Okay thank you, I'll see how my strand test fades and keep those colours in mind π Hoping I won't have to bleach in the end though.
Thanks again!
SFX Wild Flower also bleaches green, for info.
directions violet indeed goes kinda silvery when fading, I dyed violet over neon blue, with only the first 10cm virgin hair. I'm fading it with vitamin c, h&s, shaving cream and bath salts (I'm taking this very serioiusly LOL) and even the parts where it went over neon blue are becoming silver. so now I have silvery purple on top with golden blonde showing through and then it's like a gradient that ends with green/dark grey. it's weird but at least the colour is coming out. I did expect violet to fade blue since it generally does that, especially since it went over neon blue. maybe because I've never bleached it? whatever. I'm not having too much trouble getting out, neon blue is way more stubborn.
