Directions Vermillion Red - to dye or wait for Adore Paprika?

I've been getting the itch this week to dye my whole head a bright, but not too unnatural gingery red (I usually just dye my bleached bottom layer different colours, the top layer is virgin light blonde hair).  I've ordered some Adore in Paprika, but I'm getting really impatient waiting for it to arrive.

I've just remembered I have most of a tub of Directions Vermillion Red and am sorely tempted to slap it on tonight, but as I've only used it for mixing with other reds in the past to balance out the pinkness, I'm worried about just how orange it might look.

I know it will fade orange, but just how bright are we talking here?  My office will have a fit if it's traffic cone orange on Monday!  Will I be living with the results of my impatience for ages?

Should I try very very very hard to just wait for the safer Paprika?

Vermillion Red is well.. Red. It wouldn't come out traffic cone orange as it's much more red then Paprika is, I think if your wanting something not to 'in your face' then your best bet is to wait it out. Semi reds can be very stubborn to get rid of & the last thing you want is to be stuck with a colour don't want.

You won't get an auburn type of red with Vermillion over a blonde base. You could add some green to make it more neutral if you have some to hand

Thanks for the replies, I didn't mind the idea of bright red hair, was just concerned about it looking orange, so decided to go for it.  I did look online at pictures of people who'd used Vermillion Red and their hair all looked, well, Red.

Unfortunately I now have mega-orange hair, lol!  Full on traffic cone on top, darker orange-y red at the bottom where there was still some washed out Adore Violet Gem on my bleached underlayer.  The hubby's threatening to wear sunglasses around me till it fades so I may have to pick up a brown true-semi in the morning to try to tone it down a bit.  *boo*

When will I learn that it's best to be patient....

I ... wouldn't have used it.

I've used Vermillion Red before, and it goes pumpkin orange if not mixed with a pink base.

Scrub at your head with some washing up liquid (super-drying, so follow it up with a good conditioner); it should help fade it.  Do you have any semi browns laying around?  They'll help pull it towards ginger.

Thanks, the colour looks a lots better over the ends which had faded Violet Gem so you're right about the pink base.

I've spent my morning scrubbing with every SLS-filled nasty bottle of shampoo I could find, then leaving some anti-dandruff shampoo on for ages to try and get out what I can.  It looks a more yellow-based orange on the top now, but still mega-bright.

Right now I sat with some of Superdrug's colour mousse in Natural Rich Red to see if that'll push it into the red-end of the colour spectrum.  If that fails I've bought some Superdrug Colour Effects in dark brown to tone things down.

So that didn't work, no real change.  Took another trip to Superdrug and bought Nice and Easy (6-8 wash one) in Medium Ash.  That seems to have toned down the yellow-orange tones and and pretty happy with the end result, shame it too so much effort to get there!
