Directions Plum disaster

Ok, maybe it's not a disaster, but still.
(I've seen other topics dealing more or less with the same problem, I was unsure whether to open a new one or just bring up one of the other threads so I apologize in advance if this topic is useless)

So I have been using Directions Plum for about a year and I was very happy with it, until I bought a new box not so long ago.Either they changed the formula or this is a bad batch, the dye is fading into a green-turquoise-blue I really don't like. I was happy with the fade the "old" Plum had and I don't know what to do with my hair now. I thought about mixing Plum with a pink or red colour to get a proper purple, but my question is - will it work over my blue/green hair? and if this dye is a bad batch, will the mix actually work? I have the feeling this colour is still too strong - well, not faded enough - for a purple-purple to work on this. I guess that when the dye fades away, this green will show anyway, am I right?

Switching to another brand is also an option, I've been wanting to try out Adore and Special Effects dyes for a while.

Unfortunately this is the norm with the new formula Plum, it isn't a mistake or a bad batch. The other bad news is that this blue/turquoise shade is extremely difficult to shift, so you will be stuck with it for a while. To get back to purple just put a pink straight over the turquoise.

Oh, bad bad news indeed. I was hoping for the bad batch since Plum was the perfect colour for me.. sad that they changed it.
And I thought this blue would stick... funny thing is, I wanted to have blue hair and switched to purple because the blue needed too much maintenance for me.

Thank you for your reply, I'll try a pink over this. Do you think flamingo pink would work?

Flamingo pink should work fine.

For future reference, Special Effects Deep Purple mixed with Pimpin Purple make a deep, cadbury's coloured purple that fades pink, as they're both pink based, so they work as a good alternative for old formula plum.  They're both colours that SFX are shipping out and stocking now, so BU will have them soon.

In the end, I didn't got Flamingo Pink 'cause the shop I went to (basically the only one in town having these kinds of hairdyes) didn't have it in store, so I got Cerise. I had asked on Directions' Facebook page about this Plum thing and they also advised to use Cerise mixed with Plum, so tomorrow I will give it a try and see what happens.

Thank you Intempestivity for your suggestion as well, I'll keep it in mind for the future!

I think you should just put the pink straight over before applying it mixed with plum, the pink straight over the blur should give purple and if you use plum you will end up with the same blue fade as you have now.

Yes, I mixed rose red with plum to try to counteract the blue fade and it didn't work. Just stick the Cerise straight on.

I would just use the Cerise right over it and leave the plum out completely. There's a lot of things you can do to help fade the resulting blue/turquoise/green from the plum though:

Punky Color Plum is nearly identical to the old Directions Plum formula. It's really highly pigmented too and is very long lasting, moreso than Directions. SFX Deep Purple is close too but may be a little bit more pinky

Cerise over this blue fade with no mix? even though some strands are looking pretty green already? (the pics I posted above don't really show but some parts are greener than others)

I was thinking to try to fade this colour with some of the methods katiesiepierski suggested and then dyeing again..

[edit]oh and anyone has tried Cerise before, do you know how long does it last, how pigmented it is? just so that I know what I am going to throw myself into. (Control freak, you know)

I was just wondering, how long it took to fade it to that green tone?

About a month. I dyed my hair with new Plum at the end of May and this green started to show last week, while I was on vacation at the beach (so washing my hair pretty much everyday)
