So, I'm now a dark mermaid but I still want to bi flag in my hair when the mermaid fades away. As Midnight Blue is the darkest blue Directions have and Cerise is their only pink that looked well on my hair but is too magenta, I'm looking for other options. I'm ignoring old Plum here because I'm done with that one. π
I was thinking about Adore Royal Navy as that seems to be a dark navy colour, but I'm unsure which purple and pink to choose! African Violet seems like a lovely cool purple, but perhaps Purple Rage is better? For the pink perhaps Neon Pink or Hot Pink?
Now I know it all depends on your base, however I do know I usually need cool toned colours as my face agrees more with that and I have difficulty determining which ones are better for me i.e. are more cool-toned.
Navy on it's own is veeeeeerrrryyy dark. I didn't try it neat because google told me it's near black used neat. I mixed it with indigo and aquamarine because both navy and indigo are very purplish.
In my rainbow I used adore violet gem for purple because it's pink based. It's a very pretty colour. Didn't hold as much as the other adore dyes I tried though. Maybe peeps who used adore pinks and purples have better advice on that part.
From the swatches hot pink seems to be darker than neon. If you really want it to pop, I would definitely do something that starts of neon. You might want to blend the purple and pink more than the blue and purple. Because any purple going into a bright pink suddenly will look more like dipdye than a gradient.
Hmm, perhaps I can dilute the Royal navy a bit if necessary.
Violet Gem looks gorgeous but since my troubles with the pink based Plum, I'm a bit careful with using a pink based purple again. African violet seems to be more cool based.
Yeah I wouldn't recommend violet gem anyway since it didn't hold it's colour well on me. Could be just me, though. I know peeps here have used other adore purples, so they can tell you more π
I do recommend adore in general because of all the dye brands I've used, I like this one most. For me longetivity is great, the dye itself smells good (imo π ) and personally I love that it's runny. I find it very easy to spread around on my hair and also blending two colours like I did with the blue is very easy. I just put on a shower cap and wrap my head in a towel for warmth and I don't have trouble with dripping or anything. Also all the adore dyes I've used so far had NO rub off. Like none. And I use the dyes neat for the most part. Another awesome thing about it is the price, haha!
Yeah, the price is good and I love how the colours look!
Adore's African Violet came out blue on me. A very deep dark inky blue - see my avatar. (It was lovely, but not the purple I wanted)
Purple Rage might be worth a try, it's less pink than Violet Gem. Disclaimer: I haven't actually used Purple Rage on my hair yet but I did apply Violet Gem to faded African Violet and the combination came out nice and purple.
Thinking a bit more ... Royal Navy does indeed look VERY dark, I wonder if Indigo Blue would work? It's purple-based so shouldn't do anything too crazy to your purple.
I have no pink experience except Directions Rubine which was more of a wine colour, so not much help there.
Purple Rage might be a bit safer.
Now I just have to pick a pink. π
Any thought on ratio's when it comes to diluting with conditioner? And if so, what kind of conditioner? I'm getting old and I noticed with my mermaid hair that Inecto Coconut conditioner might not be my best choice. ;D
And... I just bought 8 bottles Adore at Beeunique. π
I couldn't really choose so...
1x Purple Rage
1x African Violet
1x Royal Navy
1x Indigo Blue
1x Neon Pink
1x Pink Blush
And finally 2x Chocolate Brown in case I have to be natural.
I really had to stop myself not buying Emerald and Aquamarine as well, but they are on my list when I actually have the intention to have mermaid hair. π
