Hi all.
Right now my hair is sort of like this
Except with 2.5 inch dark brown roots, and the odd purply bit at my temples, and a load of muddy green horrible bits that are my punishment for not getting an even base. So really not that much like that pic :p
Anyway, I want to grow it long again but the roots are bothering me. My hair hates me and I don't want to use any permanent dye for a long time.
So I'm thinking a brown from the Adore range, but am I right in thinking I should use a red based brown? Ash based browns are going to turn this into a horrible khaki colour. Do not want.
But I'm not too sure of the shades. I was thinking Adore Bordeaux but then a google image search brought it up as more like a wine colour and lighter than it looks? Is Mahogany a better bet?
So any suggestions for shades - I'd even use Loreal Casting if I knew the right shade - would be welcome. π
Start by fading the blue as much as possible. Then neutralise it with its opposite colour, which will be an orangey shade (put a pic of the faded blue into negative to see the colour you need, but it doesn't have to be perfect)
Then you can go over with an Adore brown you fancy. Most of their browns are warm toned except Medium brown, and Bordeaux is purple based
I've recently used Adore Mahogany, and a Castings (chili chocolate I think was the shade corresponding to Adore Mahogany).
I went from Nuclear Red so I used Directions Turquoise to neutralise the colour first, so I think you'd be best like Wicked Pixie said starting by looking at a negative photo of your hair and choosing an orangey colour first, I think if you used Mahogany straight over blue you might just get a muddy purple. I used Adore Cajun Spice mixed with directions turquoise to get a dull auburn first (you'll only need the orange colour) then used mahogany, which turned out really good coverage and really shiny, but fades pretty quickly.
I then tried the Castings Chili Chocolate, great colour but didn't last very long at all and really wasn't worth the damage I ended up getting from it!
I now use Wella Koleston in 5/4 mixed with 20 vol developer and top it up with Adore Mahogany when it needs it, it's lasting quite well and I like the colour enough that I re-did my roots with it instead of growing it out as I originally intended! I will say it has made my hair a good bit drier and probs isn't an option if yours is already bad, but I'd say the Castings did just as much harm to be honest!
I had permanent blue after using crazy colour. It faded to that blue but was purple on my regrowth (natural redhead) I did a few bleach powder/shampoo/oil washes on it and faded it to a mint green (head and shoulders wouldn't fade it on its own)
After that I put an adore orange blaze over it and it actually all evened out to an orange tone (although the regrowth holds the colour better the ends still fade to an orange with no hint of the blue/green remaining)
Maybe try fading the blue, going over it with the adore orange blaze then darkening it down with the brown.
