Hello π
I had some highlights (bleached) done by my hairdresser about a week ago, she then used blue black colour over my whole hair, but when I got home I felt that my highlights were too dark. So first I tried washing out as much colour as possible, but it didn't really work so the next day I used the extra strength colour b4. I have since then used a "blonde spray", which I know isn't good at all on my hair, but I think it's soo hard to do bleach at home (and make it look good) and I can't afford to go back to my hairdresser at the moment.
My goal is to have blue (not necessarily very bright or vibrant, I am fine with a more subtle result like teal) highlights/ends.
I would like some advice about which way to go around the colour wheel. I don't know whether I should go for a green blue or a purple blue. Any advice?
By the way, I live in Sweden so it may be a bit difficult with some product suggestions.
I have to say, using a bleach spray will definitely not get you to a good looking bleach job over time. It's one of the worst things you can do!
Can you give us a photo of the colour of your hair now? You don't really give a description other that copper in the title.
Edit to add! Sorry, your photo wasn't showing at all until I posted the reply!
It's too dark for a blue. It will absolutely be teal at best, will pull much more to the green side as well, and it's going to be very, very dark. It does need to be lighter really.

I am aware that my hair is probably too dark at the moment, but I would be satisfied with only a subtle blue colour, even though it's dark. When my hairdresser used the blue black colour over the highlights, you couldn't see any difference at all between the highlights and the roots, that's why I removed the colour. But I would be happy with teal too or dark blue with a green hue. I'm just unsure if I should go for a more purple blue or a green blue, since blue is the complete opposite of what I have now I'm thinking I could go either way around the wheel and then eventually achieve my goal colour.
I have watched a lot of tutorials of how to bleach hair at home but I don't think I can get it good at the back and I don't have anyone to help me with that :/
You'll end up with the same as what your hairdresser did if you don't lighten it more. It doesn't really matter if you use a green or purple blue, it's going to look a lot more green, probably completely green, and very dark. I know you realise it's too dark for blue, but it's also a bit too dark for a dark blue with green hue π The problem is, you have a lot of red and, obviously, brown. They're the opposite of blue, green and purple, so none will really come out all that nice.
If you want to try, it might work and not be too dark, you'll want a green based one. The green might tone the red, blue tones orange, so it might be enough.
Bleaching at home isn't that hard, but does take practice. Using the bleach sprays are worse in every way. Not just a bit worse, like one of the worse things you can do. It'll ruin your hair and start to look awful. The trick to home bleaching is lots of mirrors. As you appear to be doing just the mid lengths and ends, then it's easy.

Thank you so much again! I'm now looking at my bleaching options and trying to find a good tutorial, but I also got a package delivered today with my colours from Directions (lilac, lagoon blue and atlantic blue) and it's hard to keep myself from putting them in my hair right now haha. I'm gonna master my fears and bleach it at home, but I'm still not sure if I should go with a purple blue or green blue once I have lightened it. And I'm also unsure about how light I should make it :/
Best thing to do would be to try a test strand. Lilac and lagoon blue will definitely not work on what you have now. They're both colours with little pigmentation. You could try a bit of atlantic and see if it does anything. There's no harm in that.
Which one you use depends on how true blue you want it and what shade you get down to. If you want it on the green side though, it's pretty much bound to be a green blue π
Also, please don't do any bleaching for a month at least. You need to make sure your hair is healthy enough before starting again as damage can take a while to show.
The trouble with direct dyes is that they are affected by the colour of the base. You may get a nice teal from Atlantic blue, but the trouble with blues on a dark base is they don't fade prettily, the brown tones will start to show and muddy the colour.
Unlike warm colours you can't have a subtle hint of blue, blue over orange or brown hair makes a strange murky swamp colour. Blue and orange mixed make brown, so lightening from brown to orange doesn't really help when going blue. This is why you really need a blonde base for nice blues, even dark shades.
A very dark purple based blue like Blue Velvet may work, it is strongly pigmented so covers really well and has great longevity, so you should get a few washes before it starts to look muddy.
Going back to this "I would like some advice about which way to go around the colour wheel. I don't know whether I should go for a green blue or a purple blue. Any advice? "
You'd be far better off starting with red now and working your way through the colours to blue that way. Then you can lighten gradually. You'd get a nice deep red with what you have now. Then you can go to purple and then blue after lightening some more.
Hello again, and thank you for your replies! π
I've been deep conditioning my hair a lot since I started this thread, and I think I'm ready for another bleach.. but I'm still doing some research on what technique to use (since it will be my first attempt to bleach it at home), and I've also decided to have some sort of purple base before I go blue.
To be honest, a month ago I had no idea that it was such a long process to have unnatural colored hair, haha π This forum has taught me a lot. *thx*
