Coloring bleached hair with Adore to get ash blonde

I have bleached pale yellow hair. My natural color is probably a medium ash blonde. After close to 20 years with hair coloring I fancy trying to go back to something close to my natural color. I've been using manic panic, stargazer, directions and adore to dye it black, purple, pink, etc, and I feel that adore is the best one, it does no damage to my hair, it lasts a while and the color does not run. Also, it has a lot of more natural colors.

I will happily settle with a neutral or slightly warm blonde, but I don't want any really brassy orange colors when it fades. A bit darker than my natural hair is also fine.

Since my hair already contains yellow, I should be careful about green/blue bases. What do you think will happen if I try to neutralize honey brown with some lilac? Perhaps diluting a darker, more ashy shade, like medium brown, will work?

Or do I have to venture in to unknown territory by buying a brand that I haven't tried before? I do not want ammonia, hydrogen peroxide and tons of unknown chemicals. It's damaged enough as it is, and it seems like the reviews of all other colors contain at least two or three people claiming that it fried their hair. I know adore won't do that.

Sorry I can't help, I've asked a similar question myself before, I was pointed in the direction of I THINK 'nice n easy' who also do a true semi and carry an ash blonde shade, although I have heard they tend to come out a little dark, not entirely sure if you can dilute them to get a lighter shade like with adore though?

Hmm... yes, maybe I have to try something else if nobody has ever tried any of these colors on my type of hair. There are some good reviews of nice'n'easy, but unfortunately also some reviews complaining about scalp burn, hair loss, etc. Which of course may be allergic reactions, not some horrid chemicals.

However, if nobody has tried this, maybe somebody should. You know, for science.

Nice&Easy do several types of dyes, permanents, demis and genuine semis. You can't burn your scalp with a semi, as there is no chemical reaction involved, so i suspect it was the other type of dye.
Putting natural tones back into blonde hair that has been bleached is actually very difficult.
I used Adores Honey Brown recently, it is very acidic in tone over bleached hair, more of a copper colour, and it faded after one wash to show both orange and green tones. We re-applied, but had the same issues. We then mixed some Nice&Easy 79 in, which is a dark brown that is blue based. This did help with the orange tones, but Nice&Easy fades much quicker than Adore, so it went back to orange and green. We used various toners over it but it was a lost cause. My daughter gave up on natural at that point and dyed it bright red lol.
I recently tried a blonde mix based on Pravana silver, with red and yellow added, it seemed to work. There is definitely a gap in the market for a good blonde semi.
If your hair can take it you will have much more choice using a demi. I would get a professional one and separate developer rather than a boxed one though.

If you're trying to add gold tones back in to pale hair, Superdrug do a really good range of blonde semis.  I can't recommend a shade, but I know that some of our members have used the Superdrug semi line to go darker blonde from platinum/white hair, and it worked really well.  No chance of damage because they're direct deposit dyes, which means no ammonia/peroxide to mix with them.

They come in little grey bottles, no developer, and should be yellow/gold/light brown in colour.

Well, I kinda went with WickedPixies advice on using a demi and ended up with Wella Color Touch 7.0 from my local hairdresser. Which is an ammonia free demi, low peroxide. It didn't turn out like the picture on the box, which I hadn't expected anyway, but weirdly turned my hair into almost exactly what my real color is, maybe a little more ash toned. Left a few strands on the top for highlights. We'll see how long it'll last, but pretty happy with it.

Also, the hairdresser didn't know what "hydrogen peroxide" was... (yes, I used the correct Norwegian translation). This adds to the lists of reasons why I don't trust the hairdressers around here to touch my hair 🙂

Sorry about bad picture quality on attached photos, camera on my phone is no good. The before usually looks more yellow.

Awh man that's the exact colour I want! Lovely. Are they safe for people with ppd allergies?

It has toluene-2,5-diamine sulfate instead of ppd, so it depends if you're allergic to that as well.
