Cleaning a plastic bathtub from semi-perm dye stains

I'm currently staying with my parents at a house they're renting, and my new blue hair stained the guest room shower blue. Normally that wouldn't bother me - I'm a pro at cleaning the porcelain tub at my house, but I just realized the shower at this house is plastic  ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I'm hoping someone on here will have some tips about how to clean the strong dye stains off their plastic, I feel terrible  ๐Ÿ™ I'm happy to go out and buy anything I need. One more thing to note, the bottom of the shower is textured so I'm hoping I can use a scrubby or toothbrush in combination with anything you all recommend to help clean it. Thank you!

Not specifically showers but in the past I've used Hand sanitiser gel to clean dye stains off stuff (this is great for getting it off your hairline by the way!), also baking soda and vinegar mixture with a toothbrush. Sometimes mould and mildew cleaner gets it off baths and sinks as sometimes it's stuck to limescale that you wouldn't otherwise be able to see rather than in the actual plastic or porcelain. Good luck!

Uh oh!

Try mould spray. I don't know why it works, but it often works better than anything. Obviously try bleach, but as a last resort.

Edited to add, lauralei got there just before me! But she has reminded me, get some limescale remover too.

I have done this before with magenta pink and I tried a bunch of things, I did baking soda mixed with some salt and lemon juice which worked pretty well and removed most of the stain, but I did have to resort to bleach in the end because it still had a pink hue after scrubbing for an hour and a half, and once I put the bleach on it, it took 5 minutes to wipe away, lol

Be careful with bleach though. It can actually cause extra stains, depending on what kind of plastic it is. I once accidentally dropped some bleach on a plastic toilet seat, and it stained the white plastic yellow. I had to specify to guests who came over that the yellow stains were NOT pee stains. So annoying.

I've been there many times (Directions Plum and Cerise, I love you, but you stain so bad). Aside from the very good suggestions above, I wanted to share a few experiences in case they're helpful (even though I'm a bit late posting!).

I've had good results on plastic with cream bathroom cleaner, a nylon scourer, and just scrubbing it. I've also had good results using a magic sponge, though depending on the plastic it's always worth trying a very small area first in case it's too much. Just yesterday I was scrubbing some purple dye off my bathroom door with one of those (worked well on painted wood!).

Although I could never get the blue stains from Plum off my silicone sealant, my partner managed to with Kilrock Blast Away mould remover (as a side effect of getting rid of the mould!). we find the liquid spray way more effective than the gel, and easier to apply, but they're both good. That stuff is toxic though!

I once got a giant glob of purple dye on a white plastic toilet seat, and despite how much I scrubbed I just couldn't get it off. Weirdly though it came off with time. Nothing I could do could scrub it off in one go, but regular loo seat cleaning got rid of it eventually. so odd. Shame the dye stains I've got in the carpet aren't like that...

Best of luck getting the stains off!

Sorry for my delayed reply, but thanks for all of the suggestions! Baking soda, vinegar and a scrubby were all that was needed in this case, but I'm bookmarking this thread in case I need a larger arsenal someday ๐Ÿ˜€ Thanks again!

Good old baking soda and vinegar - I use it for everything!
