Carrier Bag Cover & Non-Sulphate products

I couldn't seem to find another thread to put this in so I hope I'm ok in creating a new thread.

Basically, I've been using crazy colour fire red for about 4 years. I use majicontrast with peroxide once every 6-8 weeks for my roots and my hairdresser does it for me. Inbetween usually every 2-3 weeks I top up the red using crazy colour myself. For quickness I rarely stand there and separate my hair. I literally slap it on, brush it through and I never seem to miss any bits or anything like that and when it's first washed I'm more than happy with it. Now I have noticed the last 2 times I've used it it is only last 1&1/2-2 weeks before its totally faded to orange! My hair feels in good condition so it's not dry and dead.

From advice in threads I'm now changing my routine so:

1)I usually put the dye on washed (shampoo only) hair that has been towel dried as that is what it says on the website. I've always washed the dye off using shampoo & conditioner! I'm now going to just do it with luke warm water and no products so this should hopefully help?

2)I've been using Aussie colour mate shampoo & conditioner and washing my hair once every 2-3 days. I'm now going to switch to L'Oreal everpure (non sulphate) as quite a few recommended it.

3) I am currently sitting here with dye on my head (been on for an hour - will probably keep it on for another hour). I always put a carrier bag over my hair and clip it at the back while the dye is on - so that I don't get dye on door frames, possible drips on fabric kind of thing. Will having the bag on ruin the dying process or anything?

4) I blow dry and straighten my hair a lot over winter (usually let it dry naturally in summer) and I use L'Oreal Paris studio silk gloss spray - I spray it on after every wash, could this maybe be doing damage to the dye holding? I also use dry shampoo sometimes between washes but I'm not sure if either contain sulphate.

I'd be grateful for any feedback or amendments to the above if you think something might help πŸ™‚

Thank you!

*loveeyes*

Also!!! Do you think I should just conditioner wash it now rather than shampoo & conditioner when I was it normally? x thanks

Having a carrier bag on your hair should actually help the color stick better as heat helps dye take into the hair.
What I do for washing is conditioner only washing once a week and then if my hair feels a bit limp,I'll do an SLS free shampoo wash once a month to really get product out. I only use normal shampoos for fading color. I don't use silicone products so I don't need to clarify my hair often.
One of the reasons that could be affecting your color is the heat styling. I find that my color fades faster in the winter as I blow dry my hair more often too.

If she's using it all over your hair, it could well be damage that's causing the fading.

I do think it must be the straightening and blow drying doing it πŸ™ noe the weather is getting better I am drying it less and I am trying to alternate straightening it and then leaving it on after alternate washes πŸ™ xx

no she only does it on my roots to be honest :(, she then usually just adds a bit of crazy colour down the rest of the hair to the ends to keep it bright.

I find Crazy colors to be pretty bad at sticking in my hair . I recently did an ombrΓ© cruella and on the pink side I used directions cerise on top and CC pinkisimo on the ends. The cerise is still very vibrant after 2 months but the crazy color is almost back to my blonde base.it was noticeably faded after only 2 washes. Have you tried another brand? It might stick better than this one.

I used directions before I used to use crazy colour but I found it was gone in 2-3 washes πŸ™ xx are there any other brands you would recommend? I don't want to chance going brighter than I am now because I just about get away with my hair at work ha ha

I think it depends on your hair. Directions and manic panic last ages on my hair but others don't really like manic panic. Its a trial and error thing. I recently started buying adore dyes and i am really liking them. They last quite long in my hair , have no rub off, and they have a wide range of Reds too.

I quite like Adore and SFX for long lasting reds--SFX over Adore, but if you're on a budget, Adore reds last a decent length of time (plus, barely any rub off with Adore, which was a big bonus).

Manic Panic is ok in my hair, about on par with Directions.  I've never tried Crazy Colour or Stargazer.

I think the biggest and best thing you can do here is switch dye brands. I would really consider SFX or Adore like above ^^

I used to do the same as you (almost - i just bleached my roots with 20 and used CC Fire)

What Majicontrast is your hairdresser using? Theres red and red magenta, and red magenta should fade more pinky. CC Fire is pink based too?

It could well be that the majicontrast isnt lifting your hair to a base as light as you think - and more a ginger base - but you never can tell with a dye like majicontrast.

However if you want to continue what you are doing , SFX is more forgiving and I wouldnt expect you to have the problems you mention above if you moved to that.

I also used Everpure shampoo with my reds, it did help. I've also tried Joico Colour endure just now which seems to be great.

I've changed to everpure and noticed an improvement already. The majicontrast is the rouge one? it goes a horrid gingery colour when she usually does it and then I put crazy colour over the top...maybe I need to use a different majicontrast? Can you buy SFX / Adore in shops or just online? and would they be the crazy colour replacement or the majicontrast replacement? thank you!!
