Can you mix different brands?

Im really rubbish at using the search facility properly, so if Ive missed a thread on this before, apologies  πŸ™‚

Can you mix colours from different brands?  ie -  SFX with Directions?  etc etc?

Ive just put Directions poppy red (as its pinkier)  over my SFX nuclear red, the ends were beginning to fade orangey and I prefer a pinkier red.  I have half a bottle of sfx nuke red left, and a tub of poppy and a tub of pillar box directions , (plus my various other directions colours) -  now I know you can mix same brands but Ive never tried mixing different ones before - is it a real no no...  ?

As long as they are veggie dyes (the brands beeunique sell) it's fine.  I currently have MP Vampire Red mixed with SFX hot lava on my head right now (been soaking in it all morning ... going to rinse it out soon, can't wait!)

If you mix a pink and an orange red you'll get a true crimson and a red fade instead of pink vs orange.

As Intemp already said, yup, it's fine to mix different brands, as long as they're all veggie dyes.  What you don't want to do is start mixing some of the salon 'demi-permanent' brands into the mix (such as majicontrast or luo colour), as these usually contain some form of developer (ie: peroxide).  As long as you stick with mixing just veggie dyes together, it doesn't matter what brands you mix.
