Bright purple - achievable without bleaching?

So, my hair's currently a faded Rose Red that went over a gingerish base, with a fair bit of (dark blonde/light brown) root regrowth where the dye has faded from completely. I'm kind of hmming and ahhing about going purple, but I'm just not sure if the colour in the picture I've attached is achievable without bleach - I have no experience with purple, would a pigmented dye be enough over a pinky reddy base?

Any input welcome, thanks in advance πŸ™‚

I can't see the picture unfortunately.

What colour you'll get depends on the colour of your hair. I know you say pink reddy, but it could be anywhere on a light or dark spectrum. How light or dark it is will really dictate how bright the colour is. If it's like your profile pic, you're not likely to get a bright purple on the darker areas, but likely can on the brighter parts. Hard to say from such a small photo though.

I've searched high and low on the interwebs but I can't seem to find a conclusive answer to my current hair predicament. I have a faded Rose Red (over a month old, without any conditioner top-ups or special treatment, originally dyed over a gingery base) with a fair bit of light brown/dark blonde root regrowth (where rose red has faded entirely). The aim is to go purple - I'm not bothered about WHAT purple exactly, just probably as bright as possible without having to bother bleaching my hair. So to prevent it going muddy, should I go for a red/pink based purple? Or is it safe to go bluer with the pink-ness of rose red? And if anyone can recommend specific shades, preferably from Directions/Manic Panic/Crazy Color, as they seem to be the most readily available to me, that would be amazing! πŸ™‚

Thanks so much in advance. xx

I'll merge them when I get home πŸ™‚ It probably didn't post  the photo only and that was the message.

Edited - Topics are now merged.

So, can you post a photo of how it is now?

Ok, I'm gonna give this a go, hopefully the photo works now! I genuinely don't have access to natural lighting at the minute apart from weekends, unless I selfie at my desk in work. But I've thrown together a collage (please don't ask what I'm doing in these photos haha) to try and give you an idea. I know it glows under artificial light though, it's not so neon in real life! :/

I'm glad you posted a photo, that's completely different to how I was imaging it!

I'd stick a blue or turquoise over it. Job done πŸ™‚ (though, it does depend on what shade you want, but you can play with blue on a strand test)

Ah do you think so? For some reason I was worried the red in the pink would react badly with blue tones... I have no idea why though, colour theory Helen, colour theory! How is blue likely to take over my roots though? The Rose Red covers them beautifully going by past experience (though obviously fades fast there!) but I imagine blue wouldn't be the same? I still have half a tub of Rose Red left actually, what if I mixed that with a pot of blue? (Sorry for all the questions!)

If you won't bleach, then no, it won't take on the roots. It might work mixed with rose red, I've not tried it. Rose red is veeeeery highly pigmented, which is partly why it works for roots to an extent.

Directions Rose Red and Turquoise make a really pretty purple (test on a piece of paper to get the proportions right but remember it will be darker on your hair). But it will probably pull a RR-shade of pink on the roots; the Turquoise won't do it as Janine says.

Be aware that Directions turq has changed. It's greener and darker than it used to be. And it sticks like crazy on my unbleached roots now. I've washed it over 10 times (with regular shampoo or Lush shampoo bars, I don't do co washing) and while it's a bit darker and not so vibrant, it's still there. Here's a pic I just took (it looks greener irl), so this is 10+ washes and the first ~10 cms are virgin hair :

I think a blue over that base will turn a lovely purple, I'm not sure about Directions turq, because if you buy this now it'll probably be the new formula and be dark and more green.

I forgot about the new formula directions turquoise :/

I prefer Manic Panic Atomic Turquoise now. It's also changed formula though! It's a bit stronger than it used to be, but I don't think it's as bad as Directions.
