Hi,
Since my hair colour is no longer fading out, and I've already tried bleaching (and been advised not to bleach any further by some lovely helpful people on this forum) what sort of result would I likely get if I put bright ginger/orange (permanent) dye over my greyish blue hair?
My hair now:
(Originally this was Directions turquoise and CC peacock blue).
The dye I have is L'Oreal's Feria in shade Paprika, another of their orange shades (slightly different/less vibrant so it's not one block colour - I always use multiple packs anyway, since my hair is v. long).
I only have today and tomorrow to do anything with my hair, so rather than wrecking my hair with more bleach, what sort of result could I expect if I went ahead and dyed over this colour/staining? Would it actually go orange/ginger still, or would the blue areas just go way off colour?
Permanent dyes process the same as bleaches, which makes them the same thing essentially. And as you bleached your hair yesterday, I wouldn't really recommend putting your hair through that again. Plus, as your hair is already bleached, it will probably fade pretty quickly.
Using a semi and topping it up in uni by putting it in you conditioner for top-ups as you go, would be my advice.
I must say, I'm not really sure what colour it would go and if it would work on the darkest blue bits of your hair. I'll leave that to another forum member. π
I think it would cover, but pull to a browner shade over the darker blue. If you really want to use the Feria dye, switch the peroxide for something much lower, less than 10 vol. This will make it less damaging, less likely to fade as quickly and slightly darker. A safer option would be to use a ginger coloured direct dye such as those from Adore. They will last just as long on bleached hair.
I put this in your other thread, but I'm putting it here as well.
Regarding using a permanent ...
1) There's still peroxide in there, and fairly strong peroxide. You're risking fried hair.
2) A permanent dye over freshly bleached hair is really not very likely to turn out the colour on the box. For one thing, the hair is more porous, and for another, it's just gone through a process, so it doesn't react like it normally would.
I'm speaking from experience, unfortunately. Several years back, I bleached my hair and then put a permanent red on top. My hair was crazy dry and crispy, and it went bright pumpkin orange. I didn't mind the colour, but it really was not at all what I had intended.
I really wouldn't risk a permanent dye.
Regarding orange over blue--like Wicked Pixie said, your blue is relatively pale, so a stronger orange (preferably a direct dye semi like Directions or Adore) should cover pretty well, though you might get several lowlights in darker areas.
