Blue based purple?

Hi everyone!

I am pretty new to unnatural colour, have been experimenting with purples.
I have used directions plum, which I really like the dark colour of when first applied, but it fades to a pink purple after a couple of washes, which I really don't like on me. The next one I have tried is manic panic ultra violet, which I LOVE the colour of, but has washed out really quickly, even with the 'amplified' version and washing it in cold water.

I have stargazer plume to try out - but I'm worried its going to do the same thing as directions plum. Plume is pink based so it will wont it? If I mix It with a blue colour, will it make it the colour I want? (a blue based purple.)

Does anyone know of any suggestions for dyes that I can either use from the pot or mix together to get a nice (preferably long lasting) blue toned purple? I have quite a lot of root growth so one that also covers natural dirty blonde hair would be good, but its not 100% necessary.

I look forward to your suggestions...thanks in advance! πŸ™‚

Gosh i love the manic panic violet its so lovely! i would kill to go for that colour right this instant but i have bright pink so i cant and just bleached my hair 4 times recently.

Try crazy colour "Violet" on a yellow base its really bright and if you use the right shampoo it can last for about a month or more, i have bright spray can pink and its lasted now for 12 washes without fading.

Colour turns out like this:

I would suppose that most purple dyes will fade to pink, as pink pigment is said to last longer on the hair, while blue fades very quickly, so the blue is washed out before the pink is even touched.  πŸ˜‰

However, Directions Violet is said to be more blue-ish, and Special Effects Wildflower appears quite blue to me, too. Special Effects Deep Purple and Pimpin' Purple are supposed to be quite long lasting, but fades pinkish, too.

hamstaoftragedy- good point about the blue washing out quickly while the red/pink tones would remain longer, resulting in a pinkish fade!

In that light, how about trying a mix of purple and blue, and then re-touching with blue frequently (and for little time) as it fades?  You could put some of the blue in your conditioner as well, or as the sole method of achieving this.
Personally I've never tried that (color in the conditioner), but have seen it suggested a few times.

Special Effects wildflower is a very intense blue based purple, which fades more blue than pink.  I used to use this on my fringe as I really don't like pink, and although I love purple, I don't like the pink fade.  Plus special effects tends to last a lot longer than most other semi-permanent dyes as well, so it takes quite a while to fade!

Directions Violet is said to be more blue-ish

Definitely, I have this at the moment and it's a bluey-purple (on me, anyway), I'm not too keen. Especially when it fades, it ends up bluey grey. I want a pinky purple really.
