Black/Blue Black dye for Virgin Hair

Any recommendations? I'm going back to having black hair soon and was hoping to get away with doing my roots as little as possible. I love how Adore Blue-black looks but I've noticed it doesn't even tint my roots. I have very dark brown hair anyway so they only start to show when it grows out an inch or two. Has anyone had any luck getting virgin hair black(er?) with a semi permanent? Or tips for getting semis to stick to virgin hair in general?

They just don’t really stick to virgin hair. To be honest, with Black I’ve found it best to use a permanent on the roots only and then top up with the semi.

You could try leaving it on overnight but semis just don't stick very well on virgin hair.

Did you find a resolution to this? I am looking for similar information. I have used permanent dyes before, but it is very difficult to remove, especially if you end up getting it on any lightened hair. I am also afraid to use permanent because I am afraid it will run when I rinse and stain the rest of my hair.
