Hey. I read a bit around and I'm considering stopping using shampoo. My main reasons are that it's one less product to be dependent on, and I save some few moneys. What I have also been contemplating, is how this would affect semi-permanent hair dye since I also plan to colour my hair green, deep vibrant green.
When you stop using shampoo, you start washing your hair once a week with apple vinegar and baking soda. I'm wondering how these two product would affect semi-permanent hair dye, as opposed to shampoo. I'm talking about bleeding of course; thinking about preserving the colour for as long as possible. The colour I have right now (not applied), btw, is Green Envy by pain box. I might also try other brands.
To my excitement, some sources mention putting in vinegar to help preserve the hair dye. But to my concern, baking soda is listed as a way of removing hair dye. Note that this treatment is only once a week, while otherwise, shampooing would happen every 2 days or so. So would apple vinegar + baking soda favour or fade semi-permanent hair dye, compared to shampooing?
This is a difficult topic because baking soda is indeed used for stripping out hair color ( in conjunction with other products) but I have also read about people with colored hair using it as a substitute for shampoo with very little bleed.
There is one girl on instagram (daridinosaur13) who recently posted about this and the comments looked 50/50. Many said it worked wonders and others hated it. I guess it depends on the type of hair. I would personally not use it as when I strip the color out with baking soda, It leaves a residue in my hair and I have to shampoo it several times to get it completely out. Using it as shampoo, I would probably not like the feel of it after but that is because my hair absorbs everything.
The apple cider vinegar, is very good to use on colored hair. It closes the pores so it wont bleed out and it leaves your hair very soft. I use it after my conditioner to seal up the cuticle.
Thanks for reply! I think the only thing I can do is try and see. When I get in to a nice routine and over the greasy period, I'll colour my hair and see ๐ฎ
