So. I dyed the bottom half of my hair around 5 weeks ago using a combo of the Mystic Purple and Tropical Aqua by Colour Freedom. It's fading out in places and not in others, so there's a mixture of pale blue-green, electric blue and purple in my hair. Most of the dyed hair is the electric blue colour, only bits of the faded green and the purple. The dye IS semi permanent, and is stated to wash out in 6-10 washes but we bleached the bottom part of my naturally mousey-brown hair first so it would come out the colours we wanted and would last a while. Now I want to change back to something like my original middle to light brown colour which I still have for the top half of my head. (I know I cant go back to how it was before bleach, I hope to dye it back to a similar colour!!) I've read about a few ways I can do it and dont know which is best! Please let me know what you think!!!
1. I could try to lighten the colour as much as I can by using clarifying shampoo, hot showers, frequent washing, and the Vit-C + Head&Shoulders combo that I've used before...basically various methods to get rid of the semi permanent colour and lighten all of the dyed hair to a faded blue-green with hints of pale purple. THEN I could dye over the top with a brown close to my natural shade.
2. I could use the colour wheel to neutralise the blue, and apply an orangey red dye on top of the blue (strand test first!!) to give me a better base to put the permanent brown onto?
If I do this, I guess the orange wouldnt neutralise the purple in my hair as purple is opposite yellow, not orange...? Also, if this option is better, do I use semi permanent or permanent orange dye to neutralise before applying permanent brown?
3. I guess I could just put brown straight onto the bleach+blue hair I have now, but I heard that just goes a muddy dark bluey green gross colour?
Please tell me which you think would be best! Thank you π
You need to fade it as much as possible to have least issues. The purple will likely fade closer to the green or blue as the pink fades first. That will give you a more even playing field.
From then on, it depends on the shade of your natural hair. If itβs warm youβll need to add some red, even if all the blue/green has gone. Dyes tend not to have red in them because itβs usually all in the hair already. Even if itβs ash youβll likely still need some red/orange to stop it turning green.
