Adore dyes - how long do you leave them in for?

I'm getting ready to do a test strand of Adore Rich Eggplant neat, but this my first time using Adore. Previously used MP and I'm starting to branch out.

Bottle says leave on for 15 minutes, some tutorials have said 3-4 hours. So my question is:

How long do you leave Adore in your hair and how well has it worked for you?

Thank you!

I leave mine in for 3 hours, just to make sure it's all absorbed in and to get the best result. Also helps it to last a bit longer and it's nice and moisturizing too.

3, 4 hours. I often leave dyes on overnight because it means I can put it on just before bed and I don't actually have to wait 4 hours, I've slept through it!

I don't use Adore often, the colours don't quite sing to me as other brands do, but it's the same routine with all of the direct dyes.

I've used Adore quite a lot, I usually leave it on for at least 4 hours, if not overnight and I wave a warm hairdryer at it occasionally throughout the process too (I wrap it in a plastic shower cap then a towel or a wooly beanie hat to keep it warm), I don't know if the heat officially helps but me and a friend have both found it seems to comes out stronger and lasts longer if we heat it a bit whilst it's on.

And damp, of course. If it dries out, it's not doing anything.

Heat usually helps, yeah. Because it's lifting the cuticle allowing more dye to slip under.

Ah yeah, I wasn't clear on that, keep the shower cap on when you use the hairdryer so it doesn't dry the dye!  (and don't do it too hot or the plastic of the shower cap will get hotter than the sun haha!)

I normally put it on before bed, sleep in it (I have it wrapped with a carrier bag or cling film then an old work beanie hat, quite comfy too sleep in) Then the next morning before I get in the shower/bath I'll buzz over it with a hair dryer and then wash off. I found it held colour better when aplied to dry hair rather then damp hair but you will use more dye.

Yep I always apply it to dry hair too, it's too runny otherwise, it'll be all over your ears and neck!

And just to prove you'll have many opinions on everything when it comes to using direct dyes...

I never put it on dry hair because it just doesn't go on nicely! I have to put it on damp hair. I've rarely had a problem with it dripping though.

Hahaha just goes to show that there's no hard and fast rules and it all comes down to personal preference!

I think it can depend on the texture of your hair and all sorts of other factors, my hair is pretty thin and fine so most things run on me!

Trial and error seems to be the best bet (sticking within the realms of what's safe and healthy of course!)

Yeah, I'm also on team damp hair :p

Dye just doesn't seem to cover properly if I put it on dry hair.
