Ok, if this has been answered, don't hang me! I spent an hour looking. I promise! I am in no way new to dying/bleaching my hair. I am however new to all these amazing fun colors! I always had a job that prevented me from using them. But a yr and a half ago I suffered a severe brain stem stroke, disabling me permanately. It took me a good yr to realize I could now color the colors I wanted, pierce what I wanted, finally at 38 I am free to just be me for the first time!! So, while browsing these forums I saw @BabyJ profile pick, was in love with those colors, and asked a bit of advice. She was so sweet and helped right away.(BTW...I want to be that freaking beautiful! Jesus! And that hair? It's just unfair I tell ya! Lol) anyway, my pink is starting to fade enough that I can soon do what I'd like to do next. By while ordering Adore colors she'd said I need, I saw a clear? Now is this like a clear glaze? Will it help bring shine? Will it help seal the colors I'm putting in? There will be 3-4. I'm slightly terrified of how it will look as it washes out. But will this clear over the top of everything keep it all in it's place better, for longer? I just keep telling myself that it's just hair, and I'm fortunate enough to have a good hat head. Not to mention since the stroke I'm not out and about too often. This is more for me than anything. Because I FINALLY can! Ok, sorry for being long winded. I always am. I'm just so new to these fun colors I don't know what will help, what won't, and how things are going to react as they fade out. Any help would be so appreciated! Pretty please?
I think it is more of a mixer for making pastel shades but i have read about people who use it as a clear dye just to add shine and condition to their hair after straightening treatments or other treatments that can damage or dry the hair.
Welcome to the forum π as puerkz said, normally people use adore clear as a mixer or to add shine.
There are ways of preventing your colour from fading as much s possible though, one of them is conditioner only washing, which means you wash your hair with a light, silicone free conditioner instead of shampoo. This is much less harsh than shampoo and won't strip colour as much.
Also most of us here stretch washing our hair, up to a week (it takes a while for your hair to get used to it but after that it doesn't feel unclean in that time.)
Also if you ever do an allover colour again you can add a little of the dye in to your normal conditioner to keep the commit fresh.

This is a link to a co-washing thread
Oh also some people to rinse their hair with diluted apple cider vinegar after they dye to seal the cuticle and keep the dye in π
Diluting the colours a little with a cheap white conditioner really helps with colours not mixing when you wash. If you dye with highly pigmented colours, they will release pigment em each time it gets wet and it's often enough to dye the hair next to it. It can make a really nice gradient effect if you have pink and blue, that's actually something I've done on purpose a few times. But put orange and blue together and you'll get sludge! If you dilute then it's a lot less likely to happen π
Thanks for the help guys! So, after I'm done doing my gradient look, which I should add conditioner to my dyes ahead of time to keep them that way?, I can do an all over clear to enhance shine? Do I have that right? I can't put color in my shampoo as I'm doing like a pink to purple to blue to teal/peacock green. Also, I'm one of those that lives with 3 men (hubby and 2 sons) so I tend to buy "good" stuff for my hair, but my 14yr old always seems to use it, no matter how much I complain about it! It's bad enough he's now growing a "Dirty Mullet" as he calls it, I don't want it to be a pink one! As much as I'm sure he'd love it! Lol! And seeing as I don't get out too often anymore I only tend to wash about once every 2 wks. But once a wk if I'm going out and it's needed, and then I'm a sulfate free poo gal. I'll find one without silicone if mine has it in it, unless anyone has a suggestion on a great one that isn't horribly expensive? Do I have that all correct? Sorry, I really have to double check myself these days.
Also, does anyone have any general idea of how badly that could turn out as it does fade? I mean I do have to wash sometimes. Just gross if I don't! Is this just a horrible idea? I thought of doing it in layers also. Instead of moving from top to ends. Do you think there is just less room for disaster that way? I really do prefer to go top to ends, but I do have to leave the house sometimes, and just don't want it looking too horrible! Lol! I think I'm listening to my 19yr olds GF too much, who is just freaking out about me doing this. I keep telling her its just hair! I can always strip and go back to my boring brown if I absolutely have to! Although I'd probably have another stroke having to do that! Finding my individuality has been amazing!
Ok, again, sorry for babbling on about crap no one cares about! I swear my brain just goes off on it's own now! Lol! Thank you to you wonderfully beautiful patient people! So far everyone has been so amazing on here! And so welcoming! I love it! And from all over the world! Ok, babbling again, stopping now! Thanks!
I think you are worrying too much. Pink to purple to blue to green will all look fine if it bleeds a bit, you only have to worry when you have non-complementary colours next to each other, like red and green as where they meet you get a muddy shade. Your gradient will look better and more blended as it fades. The only thing that might look bad is if you don't get your base light and/or even enough. Then the base colour shows through as it fades, which isn't an issue with warm colours but looks pretty murky with purples and blues. If your base is a nice pale blonde the fade will be pretty too, a more pastel version of what you started with.
