So I dyed my hair with a permanent black box dye because I got sick of the fade and upkeep on my SFX nuclear red/blood red mix hair. However, black is reeeeeaaaaalllllllyyyy boring, and I want to go back to bright red hair. Since I don't like the bleachy bits coming through on the fade, I'm going to bite the bullet and try L'Oreal Majicontrast red, then put a dose of SFX devilish over the top to get that really popping red colour (at least, that's the theory anyway!)
Luckily for me, the black box dye didn't seem to stick to my hair particularly well, and it's faded to a kind of darkish burgundy tone, so I figure one application of colour B4 should shift what's left and leave me with a fairly light base for the majicontrast (I know majicontrast lifts dark natural hair, but not sure if it'll lift out black dye, so I'm going for the colour B4 since I really want to avoid bleaching if at all possible!)
Once that's done, I'm having my fringe cut back into my hair, so hopefully will be much happier with my hair soon! I'm hoping that the majicontrast will give me a nice bright red base so that the devilish will just lift it to a slightly deeper ruby red, and when it starts to fade, it'll still stay quite bright. I could be completely wrong, but I'll just have to give it a go and see what happens. I usually use nuclear red, but I'm going for devilish this time as I want to avoid orangey fade, and devilish has pinky undertones. Since the majicontrast has orangey red tones anyway, I'm hoping the pinkyness of devilish will counteract that. This is the kind of fade I'm hoping to avoid (don't like the bleachy bits coming through at the roots)

I've decided to never touch black again, because I always end up regretting it for one reason or another.
Good luck! I hope B4 lifts out what's left and the majicontrast/devilish mix turn out how you want (I think you're right in that the pink will probably counteract the orange to an extent) ... keep us updated!

Not sure yet when I'll be doing it, because there might be overtime at work on saturday, and because there's so many processes I need to do for this (colour B4, let dry, majicontrast, let dry, SFX, let sit for at least 4 hours, etc....) I'll need a whole weekend, not just a Sunday. If I do work this weekend, it won't be for two weeks at least, as I'm working all day next Saturday anyway on my contracted Saturday (I have to work one Saturday in four on my contract). So could be a couple of weeks before I get round to it, but I'll definitely post pics once I'm done!
I'm so impatient! Once I've decided what colour I want to do, I want it done instantly!

Ok, so the first stages have been done. First pic is the before colour, then after colour B4 and haircut to have my fringe put back in. Now I need to leave it at least a few days after the colour B4'ing before doing the majicontrast as it has peroxide in it, and I don't want to reoxidize the dye I've just removed.

Awwwww! Thanks everyone! It'll be about another week or so before the final result. I have to chemically straighten the fringe first (my hair is naturally almost afro curly, the fringe pic is right after blow-drying straight and ironing with straighteners - if I don't chemically straighten it goes right back to curly as soon as I step outside if there's even a tiny bit of humidity!). Once the fringe is straightened, I won't be able to wash it for 72 hours (doing the straightening tomorrow night), so I'll probably wait until next weekend to do the majicontrast and the semi coloour, so that I have time to do a couple of deep conditions in between the straightening and the colour. Will (of course) post pics!

So I finally managed to get my hair finished, and I have to say, I am seriously impressed with majicontrast! Had some issues with it, when I did the majicontrast, it worked really well on my roots, but the bits of my hair that had been previously dyed came out darker, so I had a kind of two-tone thing happening. I guess that's because majicontrast isn't designed to lift out dye, only to lift virgin hair. The first pic is after majicontrast, and so is the second pic. It's kinda hard to see the two-tone effect because the camera flash seems to have evened it out a bit! Anyway, to rectify the two-tone thing, I did a very weak bleach bath inbetween the majicontrast and the SFX, which took all of my hair to a nice even base colour (I used a 20vol peroxide and only left the bleach bath on for 30 mins.) - didn't take any pictures of this stage, as I was itching to get the SFX devilish on and get to the final result. 3rd pic is after Devilish, K-pak 4 step reconstruct and a vinegar rinse. I'm super pleased with the results, it's come out a lovely even bright red colour, exactly what I was after! I think I'll be sticking with majicontrast for my roots from now on, as it's gentler than bleaching (does have peroxide mixed in, so it does damage your hair a bit) and it'll stop the bleachy fade once the devilish starts to wash out! yay!

Hehehe! Thank you! It certainly is RED! Exactly what I was after!
As for the tattoo, some parts hurt more than others. The bits right in the middle of my cleavage were really painful as they were pretty much over bone and I could feel the vibrations all through my chest and throat! Also, the bits of spiderweb over my collarbones hurt (and bruised!), but the bits actually on my chest weren't bad as I've got lots of padding to help with the pain! Hehehe! Might have hurt someone more flat-chested quite a bit more though!
