Hello Dearies!

Ive dyed my hair every colour i can think of, I have now decided Rainbow is the way to go.
I would like your opinions on what dyes to use. longest lasting.nicest colours...  I'm going to need the following colours;

Pink
Orange
Yellow
Green
Blue
Purple
REd

and any other colours...maybe different shades.
Also was wondering if there's a specific easy way to do this...show me pictures if you can. Oh and is there any way i can stop the bleeding/ colours running?

xxx

its probably best to stick to one brand. I'd recommend directions or crazy colour for this, as they're cheap and easy to apply.

Probably the best way to do it is pick out which sections you want which colour (the yellow section will need to be bigger as its easily bled into) before you go to dye. Tie them up in a band. One section at a time, apply the dye and find a way to keep it seperate from the rest of the hair. If you can use foil, or tie it back up, do that. If not, stick a hair dryer on it (not ideal - the colours don't last as long if they dry out?).

Wash out with the coldest water you can one section at a time, strongest colours first is best (pink, red, orange, purple, blue, green yellow). Pink isn't really part of a rainbow though πŸ˜‰

Sulphate free shampoo and colour protect conditioner will be must for rainbow hair!

Also, if you stick to one brand you can mix colours much easier. E.g. directions fire and flourescent glow will make orange, and atlantic blue & fluorescent glow will make green.

I pretty much agree with everything VaLukeAraptor said. I'd go for directions personally as I know they last on my hair a lot longer than other brands.
As for colours. here is what I personally would go for. [:

Pink - Flamingo Pink (usually I use rose red but it's a bitch for staining so probably not wise)
Orange - Mandarin looks really bright over bleach
Yellow - Fluorescent Glow
Green - Spring green
Blue - Lagoon Blue mixed with a wee bit of Atlantic Blue
Purple - Violet
Red - Fire

For pics you can see some here Rainbow Hair Photos - it needs a little clean out as a few of the photos, although bright and colourful, are not technically rainbow's but most of the photos in that section give a good idea about rainbow designs and looks.  Hope it helps.

ADDED - I have had a tidy up of the rainbow section on the gallery so it should be more or less rainbow photos only in there now.  There are a couple of bright/mixerd photos that are not 100% rainbows but are very close so I have left them in there.

Ive tried to do the whole rainbow thing twice now. Granted its only my fringe part that I coloured, but its still a crazy effort to get it going πŸ™‚

I found that using different colours from different brands makes no difference. Ive had no problems with colours blending into eachother whilest rinsing them out or washing it at later stages.
I used tin foil to seperate each colour with no problem other than having a fight with my reflection lol

The best colours with staying power that ive used are Manic Panic ---> Electric Banana & Special Effects ---> Napalm. Those 2 colours just won't come out! The darker colours like blue or purple dont bleed into the yellow at all, so far every colour has been stuck to their own little section.

After letting hte dyes set i took out all the foil and just rinsed it all in 1 go under cold water.
I dont know if that made a difference to avoid bleeding as i only did it as hot water didnt feel quite nice on my freshly bleached hair lol

Here is a thread with pictures of my 2 rainbows witht he colours ive used: http://www.hairdyeforum.com/index.php?topic=325.new;topicseen

I'd say keep it simple. Choose 5 colours and run with it.

That looks amazing! I'll bet you are very pleased with the results as its a brilliant rainbow effect.  Please let me know if we can add it to the hair dye gallery if as we keep the gallery and forum separate and never add pics to the gallery without permission so wont include it if you don't say we can.

PS - your avatar photo is not showing up - if there's any prob pm me the pic or link and I can add it to your profile at this end πŸ™‚

I did want to only use special effects dye because its the best i find but its also the most expensive. So I used Napalm orange-special effects because it was the most gorgeous orange dye. I used Directions Spring green and Plum which is very pretty. I used Manic Panic Electric Banana and Vampire Red, both are lovely bright colours...and finally Sky blue crazy colour...Sky Blue wasn't my first choice but the price was getting expensive...still a nice colour πŸ˜€

Wow- I am in awe! I had enough trouble trying to put in one thick streak of colour whilst dyeing the rest all one colour, I think if I tried what you did it would be an absolute disaster.  It looks amazing.
