My weekend bleaching project, starting now!

I'm a long term dye addict and after about a fortnight of having a normal hair colour I am BORED and hitting the bleach again this weekend. I will keep this thread updated as I go!

I'm planning to bleach once and see what happens and then depending on the result either:
If it goes YELLOW: Tone, wait a few weeks and bleach bath or bleach again to go lavender/lilac I've had it like that before...

If it goes ORANGE: Bummer. I'm not going to get it pale any time soon without seriously damaging my hair, (my hair generally gives up and leaves on it's 4th bleach) so I'm, going to go proper orange. I've ordered Manic Panic Electric Lava for a yellow based bright orange:

If it goes PALE: I'm going to put Directions turquoise on and hope it comes out like lady gaga's bob wig.

What's going to happen? I have no idea!

Hair history: I have a few inches of dark auburn roots. I KNOW these will lift to pale yellow fine in one bleach as long as I keep it wet and warm, it's the rest I'm concerned about.
The rest of my bob has already been bleached once, months ago, and has had a semi permanent ginger dye on it which fades fast.
I have a semi permanent black streak in the front of my hair which could be a problem too. If it won't budge, I will just re-dye it black for cruella goodtimes.  8)

------------

This is my shopping list for tomorrow, some of it based on recommendations from you guys!

2 x l'oreal maximum bleaching kits (I always use this, so I know where I am with it. I can't apply jerome russell properly, it always ends up patchy and burns too much 🙁 )
Superdrug toner
boots toning shampoo
1 nice n easy semi permanent black (I would NEVER use a permanent black in my hair after the stress I had trying to get rid of it once!)
An intensive conditioner - suggestions welcome that you can get on the high street!

If it messes up and I fry my hair, I'll have to go back to having extensions, but I'd rather not, just because of the time and money involved.

Feel free to ask/advise, and wish me luck! x

The Orange would look awesome! I dont get on with Jerome russell either, i find it dries my hair out too much :/

Good luck with the dyeing!

I don't get on so well with Jerome Russel either, same thing it goes all gloopy and patchy and weird. Now that I have dreads it doesn't actually matter coz they go weird anyway lol! But yeah I tent to go for wella or my beloved XXL Ice Blonde. ;D

Ok first bleach for now done, here's what I got up to!

I DO NOT ADVISE anyone to do what I did unless you are super confident with bleaching. I've been bleaching for years, I know my hair's tolerance and checked regularly for any weakening or gummy-type effects.

I covered my whole hair with the bleach, put a carrier bag on my head and a towel on top of that to keep heat in. It took 1 and a quarter bottles to do my thick bob.

After 20 minutes I checked to make sure there was no breaking.
Replaced bag and towel and heated a little with hairdryer.
Checked after another 20 for breaking and lifting. I needed a little more lift so I added most of the rest of my second bottle and replaced hat and towel.
I checked every further 10 minutes until I'd had the bleach on for about an hour and twenty minutes, then I washed it out. (you're not meant to leave it on that long!!)
After rinsing, I used two wella toners in ash blonde and finished with L'oreal recostructing mask and a vinegar rinse, followed by a small amount of frizz ease.

My hair didn't suffer any breaking and still feels strong. I wouldn't say healthy because mine never is - I love to backbomb, make beehives, curl etc and I like the tousled messy look so sleek shiny hair isn't something I have anyway!

Wet after bleaching.

Dry with flash - you can see different areas lifted differently.

Here it is in daylight. A really pale peach, but with yellowy roots and slightly darker patches here and there.

And here's a little strand test hair, using Directions turquoise and an old lilac dye I made out of a few directions dyes and conditioner.

So what now?
Well I don't know what colour to dye it now at all! Not orange probably; that was just a backup plan if my hair wouldn't lift much. Before I decide, I'm going to even out my bleach job with a diluted bleach (bleach bath) with the help of a friend - I need to lift the dark parts near my roots, and some VERY slight lifting of the light peach. This will require lots of checking and swift application.

If I can't lift the streak where my semi permanent black streak was, I'm just going to re-dye it black; thats currently just slightly darker than the rest though so fingers crossed I can get it sorted!

Will keep updating as I go. x

Oooh good results so far! Excited to see the result 😀 I prefer the lilac personally (which is strange because I have turquoise in my own hair :S)

A few day later I did a bleach bath with help of my friend, I targeted the darkest areas first and left that on a while before giving the whole thing an application for an hour.

It's lifted one shade further on it all which is great - if you have the patience bleach bathing is perfect to lighten your hair gradually!

However it's still  a little patchy and too yellow, and after more bleach the very ends of my hair (which have already been bleached twice previously) are starting to get frazzled. I did a strand test BEFORE toning and the turqouise was too green on my dark patches - I haven't rules it out, but now I have a light base I don't want to put something on which will take forever to wash out!

I've put a mix of conditioner and directions flamingo pink/blue (not sure which one, was in the wrong tub oops), to hopefully get a lavenderish colour going while I rest my hair for a few weeks and think about what to do next!

The part that is being stubbornest to lift is where I had my black 'cruella' stripe at the front - I'm debating whether to just put this back, and then I wouldn't have many brassy patches left and could hopefully correct them next time I do my roots.

Will post a pic of the lavender attempt when I've dried it!

Not bad seeing as I mixed it out of old dye and conditioner and left it on 5 minutes! Anything was better than that yellow!

You can see the darker bits in the front that I can't shift - damn black hairdye!

Oooh it's pretty : )

You can see the darker bits, but to be honest they don't look bad at all--they add a bit of dimension, I think.

Or you could go with a stronger color over the darker areas to make it pop, eitherway it looks pretty 🙂
