My first dye- a bit disapointing (MP purple haze)

First time dying my hair anything beyond boring.

First pic is after the bleach, second is freshly dyed in the sun, third is inside  πŸ™

You can actually see the gorgeous blue if you go looking underneath the top layer, even inside.  I think they were a bit Conservative in not bleaching the top layer (I wanted to avoid the bit right near my part to avoid regrowth issues).  But I think that it does need a bit more bleaching next time.  Going to wait about 6 weeks at least though.  Going to get those strands a bit lighter and more of my hair actually bleached.  It actually took my parents a day to notice it was now blue - that is how subtle it is inside.

I used 3/4 MP purple haze, with 1/4 MP after midnight.  It looks blue though.  Thinking next time I'm going to go a purpley red.  I'll put it in this section even though it is blue as I did try to dye purple..

Try not to be too discouraged.  As you wash it, it the darkness of it will fade a bit and you'll notice it more.  One of my daughters has naturally curly very dark hair that looks a lot like yours.  We bleached her hair to a medium ginger and then used SFX Pimpin Purple on it last summer.  At first it was so dark, it almost looked like we didn't do anything different to her hair until she was out in the sun.  As it faded it became more noticeable (it was first more purple and then to a pinkish purple).  πŸ™‚

I love your curls, BTW!

Thanks. Only wish they didn't turn to frizz. One reason to be careful of red dyes. Don't want to look like Ronald McDonald. πŸ˜›

Started a thread asking for advice in semi permanent hair dye section..

It isn't better yet. Although blue had faded a bit

Hi! I have a question though. It's my first time dyeing my hair to purple. I chose violet night, new shade of manic panic. I already dyed my whole hair and some part still have dark brown visible so what I did, I bleached those part until it became kind of blue then rinsed the bleach (I bleached it for like 15 seconds) then dyed it again with violet night. After rinsing it again, it turned so dark that it is close to black. Now, how do I turn it back to purple without damaging my hair so much? Thanks!

Well, its unlikely the bleach did anything much for 15 seconds. It certainly won't lighten dark brown hair. So the purple going on top has just made it darker. You can try fading it by washing etc, but it'll still be dark brown with purple on top, so itll always be more of a purple sheen than proper purple.

Been a little while since I posted this, but as an update, the blue never really stood out. It did fade to pale blue/blonde kind of colour (which looked like grey hair patches).
I changed over to sfx burgundy wine and it was much more noticeable and  an overall great colour. I've since under a forum members suggestion lightened some more strands/bigger chunks (which also lightened some of the prelightened streaks too) and it is fabulous now.

So for tips to others would be....
Do extra streaks in bigger chunks
Change colour if it is too dark.
Defrizz! Yes, hair taming products will reduce your hair dye life, but it will make it look more vibrant.
Have fun πŸ˜›
