Here is my journey from dark pink to lilac...
I did this over a few days, but bear in mind thats not the right way to go about it, you should leave a month between bleachings! I'm far too impatient and although the condition of my hair is okay, it would be a lot better if I had done this slowly.
I started out with Rose Red and Flamingo pink mixed together over a dark ginger base
I faded the colour a little by using crushed up vitamin C tablets mixed with Original Source mint shower gel, which got a fair bit of the pink out, which got me to bright red.
I then used Colour rewind from Superdrug, its like Decolour remover, only cheaper. I did originally buy the Scott Cornwall one but it had the wrong bottles inside - one was for stripper instead of remover! After that I was left with a dark ginger and red roots.
I used a Live XXL dye in platinum blonde (00A) and was really impressed with the results, it lightened quite a lot!
I bleach bathed for about 10 minutes with 30vol and got a lighter yellow with orange bits.
Another Live XXL platinum blonde followed by Scott Cornwall's Ice Platinum toner got me to this... (I tried directions but it did nothing for me!) There were still a few orangey bits in my hair but not many so I left it.
Then I mixed Directions Lilac about 50:50 with conditioner and about 3 teaspoons of Directions Violet, applied it to my damp hair, left it on for about an hour and this is the result!
Did you use a box of XXL, a bleach bath and another box of XXL in the same day? Or is this spread out over a few months? If it was the former I would strongly recommend you get some Joico K Pak Reconstructor on it asap π bleach damage doesn't always show straight away - it can take a few days / weeks to become apparent. It's not normally recommended to double process - this would be classed as triple processing. If its the latter then *phew* - panic over and feel free to ignore my previous comment π
Your hair looks lovely by the way.
No no, not all in the same day! Sorry I should have mentioned that before. I also let coconut oil sit on my hair for about 2 hours before the bleach bath and box dyes. I've already thought ahead and had some K-Pak ready, along with a ton of other hair products!
My hair is quite dry, but has been for a long time (because I'm not very nice to it and change my mind about the colour a lot) but its not bad and I'm used to having to sort it out! I'm also having a haircut on tuesday to get rid of any split ends, I'm planning on taking care of it now I have a colour I like π
I just didn't want any forum members to read your thread and get confused about how long to leave between processes (it's normally recommended to wait at least a month between bleaches - this includes blonde box kits)
Judging by the advice you were asking just two days ago on lightening your base for lilac, I too thought you had done this over the course of a couple of days. That's just what it seemed like. I hope you have some access to a good protein reconstructor and that your hair isn't really damaged.
It did turn out to be a really lovely colour!
Yes this is indeed over the last week. My hair is surprisingly resilient, but I do have Joico K-Pak reconstructor, Redken protein treatment and a whole host of good conditioning treatments too, don't worry! After shampooing I let i dry naturally and its a bit dry on the ends but other than that its in pretty good shape π
(I've added a bit at the start to let all the other members know not to be as impatient as I am!)
i have literally done the same (except gone from brown) in the same amount of time :$ oops.
looks gorgeous though! i currently have directions lilac on and is around the same shade as yours, but i didn't dilute. love the colour π
You have no idea how many people come to the forum saying how resilient their hair is, only to be back a week later asking how to "fix" their fried hair. There is no fix unfortunately, once the damage is done it can be somewhat masked but the only way to truly get rid of it is cutting it....in my eyes it's not worth taking a chance.
Anyway - you're gonna do what you're gonna do regardless of advice given, but these are some threads about why double processing is not a good idea http://www.hairdyeforum.com/index.php?topic=6447.0 and what to do when you've already done it http://www.hairdyeforum.com/index.php?topic=1935
I appreciate your concern but I do feel thats rather patronising. I may be new to the forum but I have had plenty of experience with these products and I am well aware of the reasons why double processing is bad and what can be done to help it get back to a better condition, as I mentioned in one of my previous posts.
I shared my little journey in this section as I thought people might be interested in the stages you'll go through for pastel colours (as I found none myself), not as a tutorial. As I said, I'm new to this forum and was enjoying my time on here; perhaps I misunderstood this section, I will happily remove the thread if it is a problem!
I wasn't being patronising, I'm sorry you took it that way, I put the links up not just for you but for other members who visit this thread looking for advice. If you've already read through the links whilst you did your research then great, but others may not have seen them yet and they are full of useful info.
Lovely π I've added a little warning to my post too, to not be as impatient as I am!
I've also double processed but I just did 1 bleach with 30vol then a bleach bath with 20. I'm glad you got the result you wanted the color looks fab!
Lovely result! π
What a beautiful colour!
The final shade is absolutely stunning! Looks really good on you. Looks lovely with that top too!
