Virgin Rose - really pleased!

I went for it.  I decided (against advice, I know) that I was bored with the Rose Red on my hair, and wanted to go for the VR instead.

I did a lot of things to get there - and seem to have got away with it.  I'm really pleased with the results - and my hair still seems to be in reasonable condition.    *1*

So - some pics for you.

I started with a 3 week fade of rose red (pic 1), then yesterday did loads of washing.  2 lots of shower gel, 4 of clarifying shampoo, then coconut oil for 7 hours.

This morning I used Colour B4 (which frankly didn't do a lot - pic 2), then went for a 30vol bleach.  I did 20  mins on most of it, then another 10 mins with it on the roots.  The bleach did better than I was expecting.  You can still see the red in places, but it's come out a lot better than I thought it would. (pic 3).

Then I stuck the VR over it and came out with this result!  Pic 4 is of it under the same lighting as all the other pics - Pic 5 is in daylight.  You can still see a red tinge, but I can cope with that - for now!

In fact, after I'd finished I took the dog for a walk (poor boy had been waiting all day for me to finish!) and the first person I saw went "wow - love the hair"!  *yay*

It's very pretty πŸ™‚

Just keep a close eye on it for damage over the next few weeks--damage can take up to a month to really show.

Also, for anyone who may lurk, we have to advise that we cannot advocate people bleaching freshly washed hair, as it can cause damage to the hair and scalp.

Thanks.  ;D

I missed a couple of steps out in my description - just for any lurkers.  I dried it after the colour B4, then applied coconut oil, then bleached.  Then I used a clarifying shampoo, and added the VR.  I left that for 2 hours, then rinsed it.

I know all the guidance says I shouldn't have applied bleach to clean hair - but I figured it was in good condition so I'd go for it with the oil.  Definitely wouldn't recommend this normally though (particuarly straight after CB4).

I'm going to look after it quite carefully.  If it fades I'll reapply VR (without any other pre-treatment) otherwise I'm planning to bleach roots only in 7 weeks time, followed by more VR.  I don't need to go near it with bleach before then.

It's actually more about the fact your scalp is freshly washed, especially with something like colourB4 as it does make the scalp soft and takes a lot of dead skin, and obviously, dirt away. You need this to help protect your scalp from potential chemical burns. You should always wait at least two days after washing to bleach.

The result looks really great, but I have to agree with Intemp & Janine.  Not only are you risking chemical burns by bleaching on a freshly washed/colour B4'd scalp, but also, you said you did a coconut oil soak, then used the colour B4.  This could be why it didn't do much - colour B4 is meant to be used on dry, unwashed hair (I think, it might be dry, freshly clarified hair?), but either way, the oil probably prevented it from doing all it could, which may have meant that you could have done a bleach bath instead of a full bleach.

Again, not trying to nitpick here, it's just info for lurkers!  You have achieved a great result!

I think, it might be dry, freshly clarified hair?

Yep, it's exactly that. I missed that in the original post.

Hmm - I hadn't realised how wrong I'd got it! Oops!  Seem to have got away with it though... somehow! Appreciate the comments though. Just for clarity I oiled on Sat pm, rinsed it off and dried before going to bed. Then started again with dry hair Sun am.

I know I pushed it a bit - but I worked on the basis that before I found this site I'd have just thrown 40vol on for as long as I could get away with and hoped for the best! It's all a learning curve though!!

And I still love the colour.  πŸ˜€

Thought I'd update with a new pic taken today.  This is 2 weeks after it had the 2nd dose of VR on it (and just after a trim to get rid of the horrible dry ends!).  I didn't do the roots 2 weeks ago, but next weekend (i.e. 5 weeks after original damage fest!) I'll do those again and top up the VR.

Hairdresser today was impressed with the condition given what I've done to it - which is a relief!

I'm getting sooo many comments about how good the colour is - I'm absolutely loving this one!  (Pic is taken with my cat who was getting some camera action as well!)
