Can you recommend a brand where the color will not stain your pillowcases for weeks? I had Joico magenta put in and it stained everything my hair touched for a month (the wall, my pillow case, my shirts, my neck...) it was a pain.... I've tried Pravana's violet and it wasn't nearly as bad but it still got on things for a few weeks. I had my hair colored violet at Aveda and that actually didn't stain anything... I wish I knew how to get their product... if you know how please speak up. I'm thinking of using Arctic Fox. It has good reviews on Amazon. Do you have any experience with it?
My hair currently has the Joico magenta in it and it's starting to fade. I'm thinking of doing a touch up but I didn't like the brand. If I want to switch brands, would it be bad to put that color over my hair with hair dye from a different brand? Or should I try to get it all out with Color Oops before using a different brand hair dye on it?
Dyes that are highly pigmented tend to bleed. The best way of stopping it is to dilute the dye with conditioner. There's some that are so highly pigmented that you can dilute them 50/50 and the colour and longevity isn't affected, but the bleeding onto everything you touch with your hair stops.
There won't be a problem putting a dye over the one you have already, but if it's still that dark, you won't see if it's the same tone or paler. There won't be any bad reaction or anything though. If you want something paler, then you will want to fade it down so its lighter than the colour you want to put over it.
Thanks, I think I will do that then. I heard about putting a little color in your conditioner to maintain it over time but I was afraid it would cause bleeding all the time. I don't plan on lightening or changing the color.
Will any brand cause bleeding with the dark pigmented colors? If so I think I will just stay with Joico then.
Not all will, no. A lot of the pinks do though. A lot of the darker pinks tend to be highly pigmented.
Adding some dye to your conditioner though is perfect if you always stay the same colour. It won't cause extra bleeding, but it will keep the colour nicely topped up 🙂
Do you have a brand you recommend that won't bleed even with highly pigmented colors?
Adore bleeds the least IME. Still best to dilute slightly with conditioner though, it makes a huge difference
I've not really used many colours undiluted at least a little bit for a long time, so I can't recommend anything. I've seen many people say Adore doesn't bleed much as Wicked Pixie mentions. I tend to think a lot of dyes look nicer when diluted a bit. Just more... luminescent? Something like that!
I used Directions Carnation Pink for about 2 years and found that it didn't bleed. It starts off pretty neon and fades to a lovely pale pink.
