Directions Rose Red

First photo is Live XXL Hypnotic Red about a year ago after stripping out build up and redying, but my hair hadn't been dyed since November so had massive roots and was very faded. I decided on a change because of the ginger fade, the damaging effect of peroxiding every six weeks and because the colour was darker than I wanted.

Then after a year of growing and babying my hair, four Jo Baz Max plus three 'gentle' blonde box dyes. You'd never know my hair is ringlets would you? *rofl* It's just a poofy mess when towel tubanned and brushed.

Directions Rose Red applied straight up to dry hair that had not been conditioned. First to the roots then the lengths, perhaps an hour later because I am slow and left for another three hours. Photos all in natural light, but not direct sunlight.

The photos have come out really pretty rose pink but it is soooooo much darker on the ends in real life (plum-purple in store lighting) and granny-scaringly fluorescent on the top. I cannot see even the slightest hint of red in any light at all which is why I have added my thread to the pink section. Some sections are more like this magenta http://www.lariche.co.uk/directions-colour-care/

Don't choose this colour if you want a pinky red, and don't apply it neat if you have porosity issues because it obviously is very highly pigmented!  *boo* I know I am being really negative but I actually do like magenta but in the winter rather than spring. I'm not getting the transfer problem that others have reported for this shade, all I have done so far is not use sulphate shampoos, fairly strong vinegar rinses plus a leave-in conditioner. I will try to get some more photos as I fade it out or if I end up slapping some red on top!

I think it's a lush colour, are you going to go over it to make it more red? or are you happy with the shade?

Really suits your curls too, they make it look more mutitonal πŸ™‚

I think it looks amazing!

If you want a more crimson colour, try putting an orange-based red like Directions Flame over the top.

When I used Rose Red on a very similar base, it also started off a lot darker and more purple than I expected, and it wasn't completely even either. After a few weeks it faded to this, though: http://www.hairdyeforum.com/index.php?topic=5340.msg64041 so try not to feel too disheartened with the initial outcome! I think it's a lovely colour anyway.

I've only used Rose Red mixed with CC Vermillion to make it less pink as I'd heard it was super super pink. Have you thought about going over it with an orangey red to tone it down? Obviously there's the issue of the darker ends which you might want to fade a little somehow before adding anything to them. I hope you manade to sort it all out.
