Carnation pink semi-ombre (and a super rambly hair story)

Oh gosh I apologise in advance for the length of this post... I have an issue with rambling ¬.¬

So, this is my first experience with non-natural hair colour... Well, ok, there was the time in high school I tried to dye my hair "medium brown with a hint of burgundy" and it turned hella purple, but let's never speak of that again hahaha.

My natural hair is a super dirty blonde/mousey brown, and for the last three or four years I've had woven highlights (woven as opposed to using a highlighting cap because I have a LOT of hair...).  To begin with I just had a top section done, but the last few times I had a full head done to brighten it up.

Then I let it grow out for eight months.  I was craving a change and wanted to go pink but didn't know if I had the guts to go through with it - I was basically paranoid it was just a phase and I would regret it IMMEDIATELY, so I left it for ages while I thought about it, and wanted to see if I still really wanted it.

Short answer was yes!

My stylist is actually one of two family friends who went into business and opened their own salon a couple of years ago after having worked in someone else's place for years.  So I basically trust her not to screw my hair up beyond belief (and if the pink looked horrendous she'd fix it).  I think she was concerned that this was just a phase though so rather than bleaching all of my hair before plopping on the pink, she put a blonde dye over my roots to lift the colour and then put the pink on afterward.

So the results are a little ombre-ish = the top six inches or so are lighter than the rest of my hair, wheras the ends which were previously bleach-treated and have been blonde for years are a much brighter pink.  The roots are fading but the rest is holding strong – however I do have some patchiness in the undersection as there are bits of hair here and there that were never hit with the bottle blonde.

Still, at least now I know I love it so next time I’ll be going the whole hog.

Incidentally, this took four and a half pots of Directions Carnation Pink.

SO after all that TL;DR, here’s a pic, taken in the afternoon just after I had it done… I also had 4-6 inches cut off my length because far too much heat abuse and no trims had left me with awful split ends that are thankfully all gone now.

Lovely results, I think it's great how carnation pink seems to give so many different shades of pink on different people!
