I have added dye to my conditioner once per week to keep the colour deep and fresh.

Just wondering roughly about how much dye you would mix into a bottle of conditioner for doing this?

Frou, your hair looks gorgeous!!!  I love that colour on you!!!  πŸ˜€

I don't actually tint my entire bottle of conditioner as I share my products with two daughters.  One has a panel of red in her fringe, the other is full-head purple.  πŸ˜‰  I just put a mound in my palm and then add a squirt of dye... mix it up and slather it on.  If I'm using anything but Adore, I wear gloves.  If I'm using Adore, my hands are washed clean by the end of my shower.  πŸ™‚

Thank you!! It's not very noticeable in the pic, but the sides were still a bit blondish so I had to go over it with Cajun Spice, but it didn't really work. The sides haven't really taken the colour... Bit confused, since I haven't done anything with my hair like bleach it. It's like a light red/salmon ish colour, I'm frustrated and want it like on the bottom of my hair! But that used to be brown in the past, faded to a dark blonde, so that might be why that took well and my light blonde hair didn't much. πŸ™

I have a few more dyes on my way to put over the French Cognac/Cajun Spice mix, because I want it more gingery red (Christina Hendricks <3)!  Somehow all of my pictures make my hair look more orange than it is in reality... I want it how it looks in the pics! hahah

On my way:
Adore Paprika
M/Panic Electric Tiger Lily (UV)
Directions Tangerine
Adore Spiced Amber
Adore Ginger

Thanks! Do you leave it in your hair for about a regular amount of time (which I'll just say as 3-5 minutes), or longer? And have you ever done it with a mixture of colors at a time, or just one? Sorry, I'm not trying to annoy you with questions!

Frou, is your light blonde hair virgin hair?  Most of the time, semis do not stick well to virgin hair.  There are ways to help, like a quick low vol bleach bath over where your hair is virgin or even just putting straight peroxide on the hair to soften it, then rinsing it out.

I hope you get the results you're after!  It can sometimes take a couple of applications for the colour to even out.

If it's a daily wash, I just leave it on 3-5 minutes.  If I'm topping up my colour (between doing my roots), then I make a stronger mix and leave that on for about 30 minutes.

Thank you guys!! I like the colour less now because I put Cajun Spice over it (more red than orange on me), sadly I forgot to throw in French Cognac with my order so it will take a while before I'll try that one out again!

And yes, my hair is mostly virgin hair, except for on the bottom which has dark brown residue in it. πŸ™‚

And peroxide... that's the mix of the developer and the blue stuff, right? What will happen if I bleach or do a bleach bath over the dyed red?

I want my hair like Christina's, and added in another picture of how my hair looks in pictures! In real life it's more dull and has less of an orange tone to it, I love how it looks in photos...

Frou, peroxide is the developer that you would use to mix in with bleach or permanent colour.  I've not ever used the method of apply only developer (peroxide) to my hair, but I've read here that others have to soften virgin hair so that it takes semipermanent colour better.  You could do a quick bleach bath with a very low vol developer as well (I'd say don't even go above a 10 vol if you don't need any lightening) and only leave it for 15-20 minutes then rinse it off.  That should help your semi stick better.

I think to achieve a colour like Christina Hendricks, you're going to need to add some brown to your mix.  I do think you'd come a lot closer if you mixed Cajun Spice with a shade of brown (like Sienna Brown or Honey Brown).  It gives you the orange but it also gives you depth.  The Cajun Spice or French Cognac alone over a very light/translucent base are going to lack depth.  Multiple applications of colour will also help build up your base and give the colour more depth.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for trying to help out! πŸ™‚ If adding up several layers won't work, I'll have to order some browns!

The developer  I've got is level 20, would diluting it a lot work?

You're welcome, iamaleximus!

Are you thinking of doing a bleach bath, or just trying the developer?

If you're doing a bleach bath, then follow the bleach bath tutorial but mix your developer half/half with water to dilute it down before you mix it with your bleach and shampoo.  That will get you the equivalent of a 10 vol developer.  Since you're not really wanting lift, I wouldn't leave a bleach bath on for longer than 15 minutes.

If you're thinking of using just the developer, I don't think you have to dilute it.  You just apply it to your hair and leave it set for a time, then rinse it off.  I'm honestly not sure how long you're supposed to leave it as I've never really tried it.  I'm hoping someone who has can answer that question for you.

Not really thinking of doing anything yet, just want the information just in case. πŸ˜€

I've bleached the ends of my hair before to make purple and pink take better, it was so vibrant and pretty. When I bleached it out you didn't see a difference between my own light blonde hair and the bleached sections - being a natural blonde comes in handy sometimes!

I'm looking at the browns, but the honey brown seems like a cool toned brown. Are you sure it's a good idea to mix that with a warm colour? I'd rather go with Cinnamon or Copper Brown or Sienna Brown, like you also said. πŸ™‚

I've used Honey Brown, and to me it is a warm toned brown with a golden yellow base.  Sienna Brown is warm toned and it seems to have a more orange base.  Sienna might be the better choice of the two, IMO, but if you happen to have the Honey Brown, I wouldn't be afraid to use it.  πŸ™‚

Oh and also, since I find the colour too red and not orange enough, should I add an orange dye in the mix, you think? In the pictures it's perfect, but in real life it's more of a weak red. When the light hits it it's more orange, but I want it orangey toned without sun as well!

So mix Cajun Spice/French Cognac with Sienna Brown and maybe a bit of Sunrise Orange?

Oh, I also love the colour my webcam portrays!
I think I might get this with Spiced Amber and/or Ginger:

Well, I'm not completely sure as I've not used French Cognac, but to me from the swatches others have posted (ETA: link here) it looks to more red than the Cajun Spice.  Cajun Spice is much more orange.  I might consider dropping the French Cognac and mixing these three: Cajun Spice, Sienna Brown and Sunrise Orange.  I'd do the majority if the mix Cajun Spice at 50% (or more, 65%) and then 25% Sienna Brown and a bit of Sunrise Orange... maybe not more than 10-15%.

I reckon you'd come close the colour from your webcam pic using Spiced Amber based on the result amylynn posted a page back.  πŸ™‚
