Journey from brown box dye to alpine green via bleach baths (NEW RESULT PICS!)

So, using Jo Bazz to try and get rid of years worth of dark brown perm box dyes didn't work, so I'm now going along the bleach bath route.

First, I sectioned my hair, then slathered the section that will eventually be alpine in coconut oil and left for 1 hour. (First pic)

I then made my bleach bath from:

1/3 packet of Jerome Russell bleach powder.
1/3 bottle of Jerome Russell 30% cream peroxide.

Once this was mixed together, I added some pantene ice shine shampoo, roughly about double the amount of the bleach mixture. I then left for 1 hour following the time on the box.

Results were a bit patchy. Did great on my roots (even though I waited 20mins after adding it to my mid lengths and ends before applying to roots) but only took the brown to a lighter brown with a gingery tint. You can hopefully see on the photos anyway! Annoyingly there seems to be a chunk of brown that proved more stubborn than the rest!

I did this last week, so I'm going to do a 2nd BB tmos but I'm going to miss out my roots to hopefully even it all up. Will keep unpdating this thread as I go along πŸ™‚

yay! thanks for documenting this. is always handy to see and compare othjer peoples journeys to ones own. i reckon a few more bb's (maybe 1 stronger one and a weak one should do it) am excited to see the end layered effect

I hope it looks good when I'm finally finished, hopefully should get a nice layered effect!

That's my BB plan πŸ™‚ going to do the 2nd one tomorrow with the same quantities and apply that minus the roots, hopefully should even it out. Then next week, do a weaker 3rd BB to hopefully get it all to a good base. Then I've got some of that superdrug toner, on hand from when I went orange to blue, so going to plop that one and hopefully then will be time to apply the dye!!!!

Did the 2nd BB today, ends and mid lengths are still a browny/gingery colour. They're lighter than what they were (I think!!) but I was hoping they'd be lighter than what they are *sigh* There's also some bits of brown that are being SO stubborn!!!

I took some pics, but they don't really show an accurate colour, I will put them up later anyway.
I think I might have to do 2 more BB's now rather than the 1 more, but I'll see how it looks next week after the 3rd.

I just recently bleached out some semi perm black, I swear I have the stubbornest bits where I overlapped dyes! The bits that had only been dyed once lifted no bother...the rest was a nightmare! So it's probably just that. So annoying to be so close though, I feel your pain!

I was thinking it would be something like that, I'm glad somebody else has had this problem though and it's not just my weird hair!

Here's the pics from the 2nd bleach bath. Looking more gingery than what I first thought actually, apart from those stubborn strands of brown grrrr.

What to we think, 1 more bleach bath and then toning? or do you think it will take 2 more bb's??

i think maybe 1 more stronger bb 50/50/50. that should hopefully lift quite alot, as it lifted my green tonnes!

oooo do u reckon?? when i first washed it out and dried it I didn't think much had lifted, but looking at it 1-2 days later it doesnt like a dark as I thought πŸ™‚

going to do another deep conditioning treatment before the 3rd bb then hopefully ready to tone and dye! I'm excited to think that this time next week I might finally have my alpine section πŸ˜€

Just done bleach bath number 3, not sure of the results. Those stubborn strands/patches are still sticking around and not fading as much as the rest of my hair.
I've took some pics, but it's night now so couldn't get any natural light, I'll try take some more tomorrow. But here's what it looks like just now. It is actually lighter than this in real life.

oooo they are stubborn buggers. i think try a strand test/blob on the stubborn parts to see how it comes out (obvs maybe darker than you're after) but alpine is very forgiving on uneven colour/tones. so i think you may get away with it, but it'd be a dark green rather that a ighter one =)

since this bleaching experience, ive switched from a perm brown dye to a semi now, don't want all this again if i ever want to do another colour other than brown on that part!

i hate these stubborn bits, whhyyyyyyy?? i was also thinking strand test tomorrow, as I remember you saying alpine is quite forgiving. i'll see how it looks in daylight tmos, get some more pics to post, and put up any pics of a strand test too. not sure what bit of hair im going to cut out for the strand test though lol
