*waves* I'm a new member here and fairly new to colorful hair.
This is my latest color combo: Bangs are cupcake pink, with a streak of voodoo blue on each side, a purple dreams streak by my bangs on the ends of my hair and the rest is sonic green. I did the front myself but my good friend and hairdresser helped out by applying the color in the back.
My natural color is silver/white so I didn't have to lighten my hair. This color combo has been several weeks in progress as I played around with figuring out how to place the color, it started out much lighter and patchier looking. The last pic was my first attempt and it kinda evolved from there. I'm finally happy with it and hopefully it will last for a while and fade nicely.
Its a great result, especially on naturally grey hair. Do you do anything special to get it to take? direct dyes refuse to stay on my greys.
Wow! I love your colours.
Thank you Wicked Pixie, it has really been a learning curve to be sure. I spent a lot of time here reading and picking up tips.
Over the last month or so I've done several different things, and pretty much at the same time, so it's tough to tell which one or combo worked. I've definitely improved the sticking power of the dyes, still not sure how that will translate into for time/mileage I'll get from it.
I started washing with clarifying shampoo with baking soda added prior to applying the dye. I've done it the last 2 times. Even though it faded the dye I had, it seemed to help the new dye really stick. My friend/hairdresser commented on how much the dye was just being sucked into my hair, when she was doing the back, I wonder if it was the baking soda, no way to be sure. Only had 1 bottle of Sonic and I barely had enough.
I've also discovered (accidentally) repeating the dye about a week later seems to increase the color exponentially. I was trying to add/change fix what I didn't like about the color I just did, not brighten it, but I found areas that had only a single application (like roots) faded out fast (visibly in one wash) but a repeat coat made it a lot brighter and it stayed nearly unchanged for 2 washes. I have yet to go much more than a week without adding more dye, because I wanted to change something. I included a progress on successive dye attempts.
The color in the pics of my first post was just done and has only been rinsed, not washed yet. (Switching to CO wash was something else I added into the mix too, it also helped) I'm curious to see how much fading I get in the next few weeks. I'm still really new at this, and I've not gone a full 2 weeks without applying hair dye. I could come back in 3 weeks with little to no color left.
Also my hair was permed in Sept, so technically my hair isn't completely virgin any more as far as processing.
Wow! I love your colours.
Thank you. As I've been surfing the forum I've seen lot's of pics of colors you've done. I have to say that I'm a fan of just about every combo I've seen on you, loved your timeline thread too.
Aww thanks!!
Hey Sterlyn!! <3 Love this combo, but, you know that!!
Thanks ;). I probably wouldn't have tried it myself without your advice and encouragement.
That is gorgeous! Those curls too, wow!
Thank you. I wish I had that kind of natural curl, but those are from a spiral perm back in Sept. I have some natural wave to my hair but nothing like that.
π OMG your hair looks sooo cute.
