I know I want some colourful highlights but I am not sure of where I want to place them. Currently have 2 blonde chunks (that I sometimes dye blue), looks pretty in plaits etc but I'm bored of it now. Don't want all over colour though.

Well if you don't want all-over colour then I wouldn't suggest going for natural roots and colour as most of the hair is going to get colored anyway (at least so it is in the pictures you posted). I'd go for something like the last pic you posted or similar to that? Something like this maybe?
Or something like this one as well (haha ignore the fact that for some weird reasons these are all blues)

yeah i agree the brown and yellow hair is lovely! especially how the yellow has been placed slightly into the fringe

I love bright highlights.
My favorite applications are hidden strands and colored ends.

Personally I plan to go blond and play with different applications.
I like what you have now, but as a briht hair maniac I want moooooore color 🙂
