Contrasting hair with darker roots and lighter ends has been quite in trend in the past couple of years. But it has always existed, for example when you think about surfer girls' hair which tends to be darker at the roots and very bleached at the ends (although it's due to sun and salt water).
I went to a salon (it was in beverly hills actually, kind of a funny story) once to ask to have roots put in. I had my normal allover blonde and I asked to have darker roots painted on. The stylist was completely appalled, he was like "but usually people ask for me to get rid of their roots, not give them some!!!", "is this for a part? are you an actress playing a junky or something?' and then proceeded to ask the whole salon to come see me and be collectively astonished.
That was in 2008 or 2009 I think, I'm sure now it's a very common practice ;).
So it might shock some people who bleach their hair as soon as they see roots, but I like quite a bit of root. At least a couple of inches. And I think it looks lovely on those pictures with the pink hair, girly with her little roll and charlotte free.
My roots are very very dark ash brown, and I love how it looks with faded/light hair :3
I'm sure i read that there's a trend in hollywood for older actresses to have their roots dyed darker so people dont think they are going grey. Not sure how true it is but hollywood is full of all sorts of crazy so it wouldnt surprise me if it were true.
I really like pink hair and black roots!! Not the half centimeter ones I get though haha the proper 1" roots!
I loved how my hair looked when I roots came through with my Napalm orange. But with my current colour my roots are looking a rather dingey light brown than the real deep, dark stuff I had before. It's probably just the difference in colours, but that doesn't mean I can't be sad about it. :<
I love black roots with almost every color, specially platinum blonde. Mine are ashy blond, and clash with pretty much anything other than dark blue =( I would seriously consider dying black roots in, if black dye wasn't such a pain to get out.
I used to get loads of compliments when my pink faded and my roots came through ... people seem to really like the look!
Hazillian, mine are the same ... with the pink my brown looked really dark, but with the red it's just normal ash brown : /
yeah I remember mentioning to my hairdresser I was about to dye mine when I had it red and he told me to keep the roots... they did look alright when he cut my hair but I went and dyed it anyway 😛
I used to like the way my hair looked with dark roots (about 1 inch long) and the rest bright, but lately as I've been getting progressively more and more grey, it just doesn't look the same anymore with dark brown and silvery grey in the roots!
I hate roots, wish I didn't since my hair is a speedy grower but my roots just look grey with the blue, with the orange they looked dirty brown =/
My hair's mid to light blonde by nature and it looks terrible if my roots are more than 2 cms to any other colour. It's funny that I also like the dark roots thing, but blonde roots are ugh. That's why I slapped on bright red to slowly get the black out of my hair. If all that red hadn't been dyed, it would've looked horrible, haha.
Edit :
I know this is a wig, but oowwww, this olive shade is wow. *loveeyes*
Would there be any way to get this colour? Mix green with.. grey?
I'd say its a yellow based green over gingery hair maybe? i dont think grey would work. Maybe a tiny bit of brown?
I was thinking about brown too. The bits where the hair stylist couldn't bleach to yellow are kinda brownish in my hair, so when I apply turquoise it comes out kind of olive with time.
Sorry for bringing in old stuff, I was browsing the inspiration pages and found this. THIS is amazing! What color you think was used, and on which base???
