I love curly hair but mine is hopelessly straight. When I was younger I tried my mother's rollers and curling irons with awful results, but what really works for me are those soft foam, bendy rollers. That's the only way for me to get curls, and I've found pretty long and large ones too so I can wrap up my long hair better and I can get a more natural-looking result as well. I usually put them on damp hair and sleep in them, they are a little uncomfortable at the beginning but I got used to it.
I've seen many tutorials of people twisting hair on their fingers, making little buns of it and pin them at the head before sleeping. They get something between waves and curls but I guess it works only on mid-length hair...I can't even twist and make a decent bun out of mineXD
You are talking about bantu knots! I've tried those with some success. It looked like my hair should be on the cover of a bodice ripper at first then calmed down to a more respectable look.
My hair is too long for the head band trick and I still can't figure out how to do it in a sock bun.
The tampon video is hilarious!
I used to do that back in the mid 90s to wear out all the time. π
Pictures or it didn't happen ^ haha π
I did this the other day and it worked great, but I imagen if you don't make sure each section is nice and neat it could be a mess. I made a make shift wrap that was more rounded , it still came out more zig zag than curls but it was great and so easy for a "got no time to do hair"person like me. id deff try get some kind of round foam tube ( like them long things kids play with in pools, but thinned out ) and do some diy on it to make a attached circle this way the curls would be round, but im well impressed , will be doing this again for sure...x thanks so much for the vid xxxx
I want to try this, but I wonder what it's like taking off the headband in the morning. I've tried the bendy curlers, and my hair knots up a bit in those.
Is it easy to get the hair out of the headband without pulling or knotting? I hoped she'd include that part in the video!
When I tried it, I found that the headband came off easily, but then again, my hair doesn't have natural curl or hold curl very well at all, so it was just wavy. I don't know if it'd be more difficult if your hair curls up well.
I was sent on another training course today (in lieu of going to work, yay), and the venue was literally a 30-second walk to Sally's, so I couldn't not stop in and treat myself to something.
I bought a package of Curlformers... thought they'd be fun to try as another way to get heat-free curls. I have no idea how effective they are as they seem relatively new to the market, and they also seem like they could catch or pull the hair if you're not gentle, so I'll be ultra-gentle with 'em!
You apparently stretch them out and draw nearly-dry hair through the mesh spiral tubes with sort of a crochet hooky-thing, then they snap back into flat spirals. Anyone seem 'em or tried them?
A few people have tried them on here, there are some threads with photos. I keep meaning to buy some myself and try them but keep forgetting!
When my hair was shoulder length, I used them all the time. Loved them. I've even used the smallest ones on my fringe recently and it still worked pretty well.
If you got that length though, they are never going to work for your hair!
I'm surprised you haven't seen us talking about them in the past!
Here's one thread http://www.hairdyeforum.com/index.php?topic=11155.0
I know I posted photos of me using them too at one point, not sure where though.
Hee hee, sorry, I hadn't realised there was already a thread about them! The thread began and ended before I joined, so I suppose I just never bumped into the conversation.
I want to see your photos, Janine. π
I think that's the length I bought... so if they don't work on my hair, then well, hey ho.
EDIT TO ADD:
I thought they were new because either: 1) my local Sally's have just started stocking them, or 2) they've got a much bigger display now that I hadn't noticed before!
Well, that's the length I was using on shoulder length hair and on the top longest hair, they were only just long enough!
I see... thanks, Janine.
I'll have a play around with them... even if I catch a few inches of hair, they should add some "personality". I'd either get them down to the lengths to (hopefully!) have soft curled ends, or pull them up to the root and let the ends stay edgy, which I like too!
Also thinking about just using them on the side and top lengths to frame the face, which are shorter than the back lengths. Regardless, it's another toy to play with, ha ha.
I REALLY want to try the curlformers but i don't know if i can justify Β£40 on them! especially as my BF and I are living on one salary as i'm a student. boo.
I admit I haven't tried them yet, but a pack of 4 was just under Β£9. Plus you need to buy the little crochet-hook thingy, which was about another Β£3 or so.
Have no idea how much hair will fit into the 4, so I may need more packages, dunno yet!
You had to buy it separately? Are you sure? I've had loads because every set I got had one in...
