FAQ: How do I do a Sensitivity Test?

This can vary depending on the brand and type of dye you are using, but unless the packaging says otherwise a general guide to sensitivity tests for semi-permanent dyes would be:

  • Thoroughly clean a small area or bare skin (normally the inside forearm)
  • Apply a small amount of the semi permanent hair dye to the area.
  • Cover with a sticking plaster and leave for approx 48 hours
  • Check the results after 48 hours or sooner if you experience any discomfort
  • If there is no reaction then it should be fine to use the product although reactions could still occur

NOTE: Although an allergic reaction is very rare if you experience severe pain, nausea, headaches etc rinse off dye immediately and consult a Doctor.  Semi-permanent dyes are unlikely to cause a reaction but caution should always be taken with any cosmetic item as allergic reactions can occur even with items used previously.

Please post in the main forum should you require any more specific information
