a quick question. I'd like to get a more vibrant colour (I currently have a darkish purple going on from a directions plum mix). Would it be worth using this method and a bleach bath to lighten my colour (considering I'm not going for a change in colour, I just want it lighter/brighter) or would that be unnecessary damage where just a bleach bath would do?
I would try this method first, you might find you get enough colour out for a brighter purple. And even if you still need to do a bleach bath you will be able to do a weaker one or leave it on less long. My hair didn't really damaged after this treatment, just dry.
makes sense, thanks π
Do you think you could substitute the olive oil for something like almond oil?
I have zero olive oil in the house but a big bottle of sweet almond oil. I could see the almond oil being better in terms of moisturising but I want to see if anyone has tried substituting before I potentially waste the bleach powder if it won't work.

I don't know if I am correct, but except for coconut oil, all the plant oils are good for hair cause they moisturise in a way, provide some sort of slip, help retain the protein, but in all honesty, they all do a similar job. In this concoction I think olive oil acts just as a diluting agent, I don't believe it's the key ingredient, it's just a diluter, that provides a slip, and helps take the edge off of the harsh chemical like bleach
Make sure you document your steps with photos, would be much appreciated π
Katie, do you think I should first use colour b4 and then bleach powder method for stubborn bits, or first bleach powder method and then b4 for stubborn bits? What would be your presumption?:)
The bleach powder method has worked much better than colour removers for me on bright colours. If it we me I'd go for this first, you might be surprised by the results and it's cheaper π
Do you think this method would lift the cuticle enough (or at all) in order to use a semi on virgin hair & it last as long as it would on lighter bleached hair?
^Yes. This will give a gentle lift - it didn't budge my stubborn roots, but the mixture that got on my shirt definitely bleached it.
does this method fade hair color more than a bleach bath? because i am trying to get white and i have some stubborn green bits but i am gonna do a bleach bath anyways so my question is should i try this method anyways or is it just meaningless because i am gonna do a bleach bath?
Definitely try fading it first, bleach + developer can drive the color further into the cuticle.
Ooh I totally love this method for fading...so simple and no yucky smell!!
I've just gone from this to this which gives me an even enough base to bleach to blonde (ish) on my way no a nice bright vibrant red!! π
A xXx
Sorry for soy me post...phone is being a pain in the butt!!
Both scrappy pic from my phone front can but you get the idea!! π
That's taken a lot of the colour out, I hope the bleaching goes well π
Quick question.. How long do you think you should wait before trying another round of this? I was thinking to wait about a week as you would do for a bleach bath.
