Thanks so much @Odette and @Valaina π I can't wait to go dark grey! I have to remember patience though! lol
@pastina thank you!
it didn't lighten my natural level of my roots, like it didn't pull them from dark ash blonde to gold or yellow or anything, but they are definitely more gingery looking now than ashy. Still the same level, just the underlying pigment was revealed from doing this.
I do think the heat is the key element in pulling it altogether though, just as important as the ingredients themselves. It is drying though just like other fading treatments, so make sure your hair isn't dried out to begin with before you do this. And if you have any areas that are iffy/on the verge of feeling damaged I would be careful. I had a couple areas that were iffy, not breaking or splitting, just not 100%, and after this they looked thin and scraggly. They weren't breaking or anything, they just didn't look nice. You can see I chopped those ends off, the area hanging right in front of my ears, right behind the darker pink streak on my swept over side. You can see it's shorter on that side than on my right, which I also cut
It really worked awesomely though! I still can't believe how much color it took out lol, I'm not used to seeing myself with light hair! haha. You can always try it on a test strand too to see what your results will be like. Just wrap it in foil and heat it up a bit, just try to keep it warm (not hot) throughout, you don't want it to get cool.
UPDATE 6.6.2014:
I ended up bleaching my roots, I shampooed, did a keratin and moisturizing treatment, then it felt like I still had bleach on my scalp/in my hair. So I shampooed it again and impulsively did one more shampoo + bleach powder + coconut/olive oil treatment on my lengths afterwards, on shampooed, non conditioned, wet hair and this is what I have now, and I only left it on for 5 minutes, maybe like 7 at the most. I put a cap over it and heated it with dryer for the first 2-3 minutes:
I didn't condition afterwards since I'm planning on doing something with my roots (don't know what yet lol) but it really feels and looks just fine!
Thanks so much for the update on this thread. I'm so pleased to hear that this sounds like a rather undamaging fading treatment. I do love the result and can't wait to see the next colour choice!
Thanks @Alexia π it really doesn't feel damaging, just drying like the typical fading treatment π
I have already dyed it and I'm loving it! I'll post pictures today or tomorrow in my timeline. I feel like a Lisa Frank magical unicorn cotton candymy llittle pony faerie!

AWWWWWWWW!! post them pictures, weeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk <3
Haha I promise I'll be posting pictures today! It was hot and humid yesterday and the kids were running me ragged all day so I really didn't feel up for putting on makeup and making my hair not look like I've been sweating all day lol. I have to get ready and run some errands (including shopping for hair stuff! yay!) but I promise I'll take some photos and have them up this afternoon π
Katie I wanted to ask on this - I'm planning on doing this fade on mine in a few weeks time (after my sun holiday), at which point my roots will be hideous as well (8 weeks since last roots / colour application). My natural colour is very dark brown so the roots do get very bad! I can get away with it with the darker VR I've got on there at the moment - but if it's paler it'll look silly.
Would you recommend doing this fade treatment first and leaving the roots even longer before I do them? Or do the roots first? Or will this process be enough to tone the roots in enough not to look too terrible?
I don't want to overprocess, but I don't want my hair looking completely stupid for the summer either!
When I did it , trying to avoid it getting on my roots (like a reverse touch up, it was weird applying it! lol) the parts that it did get on didn't lift by levels or anything, but the underlying pigment was revealed. So instead of them being my natural level 7 dark ash blonde they looked more like a light ginger/gold level 7. So if you do decide to let your roots get longer and you get some on them, they will probably look more like a dark red/brown vs a dark brown and it shouldn't really be noticeable.
Personally I don't like going long without doing roots because you can get banding/have to go over the bottom part of the roots again later and it's just a pain, plus the extra damage. That's just my feel on it though!
If it were me, I would definitely wait til after your holiday, if you're in the sun/water a lot, your color may fade so much you may not even need a fading treatment at all. I would treat this treatment as if it were a bleach bath to be on the safe side though. So you could do the fading treatment, trying to keep it off your roots, wait a week, then do your roots, or do your roots, wait a week for some oils to build back up in your hair, then do the fading treatment. I know you don't like how dark roots look vs paler lengths, but it's up to you whether you want bleached roots + darker lengths for a week, or darker roots and paler lengths for a week.
I know I did it right after bleaching my roots and shampooing, but it was more drying doing it that way than doing it on hair that hadn't been washed for days + was coconut oiled. So even though I did it that way + it didn't seem to damage my hair or anything, it just made it dry, it doesn't mean that it won't damage someone else's hair. Do you get what I'm saying? I'm just trying to advise the safer way to go about it than my last one lol
Brilliant thanks. I usually do roots at 6 weeks but that's the start of my holiday so it'll have to wait. I'll see how faded I am after then - and you're right I'll probably do roots first then a fade later if it needs it. Although I'm now pondering roots before holiday... Hmmm. I'll think that one through.
(Indecisive as always!)
I used this again yesterday. I had done two bicarb fading treatments on my Pravana Violet, when it was still basically the colour in my avatar, and got a streaky result with some bits still that dark and some bits lilac-grey. After half an hour with this on, I'm golden blonde, with a tiny bit of lilac in some places. And my hair feels fine.
π
This is the best and the most gentle fading treatment I have tried, I hope it will budge the green stain left from adore indigo and the new turquoise formula. I tried it once yesterday too and my hair feels perfect, so perfect in fact I am very tempted in doing it a second time today... I should be patient though! So grateful for this thread!

Let us know how it went please ! #daredtousedirectionsturquoiseandwantstogobackblondenextyearjustsayinlol
Two applications of the mix and I am almost a natural tone. Did it two days in a row and my hair felt just a tiny bit drier then usual, something like washing with baking soda 2 times. I think one more shot will get it all out. This stuff is amazing! *cheers*

Thanks for the update! How would you compare it to baking soda? I know you probably used different dye but more or less, how did it do?:) Did you mix baking soda with a shampoo?
Haha, no I compared it as a level of how dry my hair got, it was the level of a normal wash with a baking soda and water or a really harsh shampoo. Nowhere near to the desert dry hair I got from decolor remover or vitamin c treatment. Just washed my hair again and it feels absolutely normal. I'm so happy! π
It's worth mentioning that I was with Blue Velvet on top of the green stain and it took out the whole BV and some of the green on the first application and around 50% of the green on the second application. I'm using a pretty expensive blue bleach powder, I don't know if it makes a difference.
