Yeah, seems unlikely to me. I'm just clutching at straws.

Like the straw colour of my hair.

That it wasn't before.

Waaaaaaaaaah!

Janine, I had the same result! I had white hair for over a year, used this method and ended up ginger even though I had a perfect base.

Did you manage to reverse it Pippa?

Could it be that the old dyes were toning your hair white? It has happened to me that i put a mix of dyes on yellow hair and they fade white, only to go darker when i use anti dandruff or clarifying shampoo.
Could also be the bleach reacting with something but that usually turns green not yellow.

Nope, it was freshly bleached before I put on the yellow, blues and greens, so nothing was doing THAT much toning. It was pale yellow when I put the dyes on. I know partly because I wouldn't have used some of the colours I did if it had been any darker! It was also quite a bit more faded than this. A lot of the dyes had totally washed off on some areas. It's not possible to tone yellow/gold/orange this dark into as pale as it was. Ive tried toning it since and it's still golden, just slightly more dull gold.

It could be a reacting. But I've spoken to pippa and she showed me the colour it was before she used it and after, it was different to mine yet she got the same result. So I don't think it's that either. And as I say, the green was actually a huge random mix of greens and blues, it just doesn't show. They've all come out the same colour. It's now an even colour all over. If it were dyes reacting, I'd expect random colours everywhere.

I've never heard of olive oil staining hair before, and I don't see how anything else in this could have changed your color like this, or with your dyes either. My best guess would be that you had deposits in your hair which reacted. Which product did you use? Does it say which deposits it's effective against? That's exactly what this looks like to me, but I could be wrong. I would try using a treatment for hard water, something more effective Against Iron and Copper vs Chlorine, like if you can order it online, Malibu C Crystal gel treatment or they have many different treatments for various water/deposit issues. Iron you usually get more of this gingery color, copper can be a rusty or greenish-rust color, chlorine is more green, sometimes a yellow green. This looks more irony to me, possibly copper.

I've never seen this happen with this treatment though, only when using bleach powder/creme and developer, but the water in the shampoo can act as a mild oxidant creating a reaction. And the thing with deposits is you really never know when they will react. This has been happening a LOT here in the states and I've heard a lot of reports this year from Ireland/Northern Ireland, about discoloration and more frighteningly heated chemical reactions from deposits. I've been doing a Crystal gel treatment on everyone prior to any chemical processes because I absolutely do NOT want it happening to anyone in my hands.

Anyways, that's what I would use, or if you have something locally available that's similar. Sally's in the states carries their own Malibu line, idk if they have it over there. Ones for hard water usually have more chelating capabilities than swimmers shampoos/treatments. They can be drying though so be sure to moisturize really well

I've never had a problem when bleaching before and I've lived here 10 months and bleached several times. In fact, if anything, I've had better, less yellow results since being here. It was Blondme, I think, by Schwarzkopf. I can't find anything about deposits on the tub. Haven't looked it up online yet.

I've looked up the water here. I've attached a screen shot of the table. It looks like copper and iron are both on the low side, but maybe I'm reading it wrong? As a total aside, im fascinated to learn the water here is naturally fluorinated! I didn't actually know that was a thing, though it should probably be obvious lol

Anyway, pippa is in a different area to me though, so I don't know if her water has the same.

Is this the crystal gel stuff? http://www.salon-services.com/malibu-crystal-gel-treatment/

The water isn't necessarily consistent though. You can use it a hundred times safely and then one time there is more iron, copper or whatever in it, which isn't necessarily going to show up on the water test.
I am wondering if there is somewhere that you can send a sample of your hair to get the deposits identified.

Well, no, I realise that. But it seems unlikely, if I am right and that is low (don't know if I am though), that it's going to suddenly go that high randomly. It comes from a large body of water so should be fairly evenly distributed. Not impossible though, I grant you that. I also have no idea how high it does need to be, so eh. I'm just really tired and emotionally drawn out tonight!

There are places, but I suspect it costs a lot! Certainly more than I'm willing to pay right now 🙂

I would be absolutely furious if that happened to my hair.

I am! But I've had a look and it costs at least £59 and takes 3-4 weeks. Just not really worth it unless the same happens again. If it does, then I might.

Have you had any success in removing the deposits yet Janine?

I have. I decided to bleach bath yesterday. I knew I'd have to anyway, so it wasn't a big deal.
