So I'm a former henna user and when revisiting the site I used to order from I came across zizyphus spina christi. It's a plant that is comparable to henna that leaves no color behind. This is an option for people who have white, grey or light hair (who can't use cassia because that's another plant substitute for henna but it leaves behind a yellow tint).
Unlike henna it does not straighten out hair texture so that's a plus for me personally and it is reported to enhance curls and thicken hair strands. As with cassia, it has been reported to leave some people's hair dry. My guess is it's because their hair doesn't need the protein and these plants act like protein treatments. It also acts like a shampoo and protects hair from "water, sun, and dust". Never knew dust was out to get our hair but OK π
The thing is...
It says on the site to test on bleached hair because results may be "peculiar". I haven't been able to find much on zizyphus on bleached hair but I'm still searching. Either way I'm ordering a sample of it to test out on my bleached hair, then watch intensely for signs of peculiarity.
I'll report back after doing some experiments with it. Anyone have experience with this very cool plant?
Edit* I found out that it coats the hair shaft like henna does and it only comes off with a strong clarifying treatment. This has potential to really help bleached hair be stronger.
I know nothing about henna, but theodora made this thread that may help

Thanks Pippa. It's not actually henna though, I'll change the title to make that more clear. I ordered some samples and will be doing tests so if anyone is interested in seeing results leave a comment.
I'd love to know what sort of results you get π
Cool. I'll be updating shortly then π
Thanks π I've been looking into henna, but I'm terrified of the permanency of it, so if this does the same thing it would be a way better solution, though I'm assuming the benefits won't be as long lasting as with true henna
It wont come off unless you use a strong clarifying treatment. That's why I'm staying away from henna right now too. I just loved how it made my hair and scalp feel so this is supposed to be an alternative, there is just such little research on it I have to do it myself it seems. Still awaiting on the package to come in the mail.
