Would this work? Trying to get grey/silver/chrome/gunmetal

I bleached my hair as light as I could get it. I have been using La Riché silver and had no luck with it. So I was thinking that if I went to Sallys and got some developer and black or black/blue dye and only used a little colour in the developer it would go silver (seen youtube tutorials doing this). So i wondered if I just bought a standard black hair dye (like Schwarzkopf XXL Live Black or Black/blue) and use only a quarter of the colour in the bottle of developer it comes with, would that take my hair to a silver or grey colour?

I either want light silver or I want gunmetal grey, either would be lush! lol

Thanks in advance 🙂

No, don't use anything with a developer, it's really not needed. Use Pravana Silver.

And will that stuff work? Only I have tried La Riché twice and tried crazy colour siver also... all they did was remove some of the yellow from my hair, but added no silver tone :/

Is Pravana the best silver dye/toner?

Thanks x

I can't promise 100% obviously, but others have had a good result with it.

For a pale silver though, you have to have a white base. The la Riche directions silver will tone to white (if the hair is pale enough) and then you can use it again to get pale silver. The trick is normally to leave it on longer. 15 mins is often not long enough.

Have a look in the colour results photo section in the 'silver/white' section for Pravana results 🙂

I left my second pot on for an hour and a half and it only toned less yellow... But no matter what dye I use I have to leave it on longer than the packaging says...

So is Pravana a toner or dye?

Toner is dye. It's just a paler, less pigmented version. It is the colour the is the opposite of the colour wheel (purple/yellow, blue/orange). But essentially, Pravana silver is dye.

If it hasn't gone white, then your hair isn't pale enough of a yellow to go white/pale silver.

ahh ok, yeah its not quite platinum or ice white, I think Ill bleach it again. I only have short hair, so if it does damage my hair it is no biggy, as it grows quick enough anyway 🙂

Thank you for your help 🙂 x

Don't bleach again. If it breaks at the roots, that is a bit of a biggy! And if you really must, though I strongly suggest you don't unless it's been more than 4 weeks  since last bleached, then do a bleach bath.

Just use Pravana silver for gunmetal.

Pravana Silver is one of the best.  But Nirvel ArtX Nutre Color in grey is even more neutral/gunmetally, and my personal favourite at the moment.

I haven't used either one of them neat yet, but they're very strong dyes, and all I need is a little to turn yellows to an ashy/greyish colour.

Good luck, and we'd love to see pictures!
