Little bit off the wall perhaps but does anyone here go in for wool/roving dreads, or know anyone that does? (Or a forum or facebook group dealing with DIY fake dreads that is actually active?)
I made a load of wool dreads a couple of years ago and was thinking of installing them but they're WAYYYY shorter than my real hair so I was wondering if it would be possible to extend them.
They're double ended so if I can't extend them the other option would be to shorten them slightly and convert to single ended but I'd really rather not do that. Firstly I don't know how and secondly I want the volume & coverage I'd get from double-enders.
Edit: Couldn't find any instructions online but I found some felting needles so I'm just having a go at extending them - basically what I've done is cut the shortest ones in half and split them lengthways a little, then trim a little off the end of the medium length ones so I have a kind of tapered join area which I'm needle-felting together and will get rid of the resulting fluffiness by wet-felting.
Four down, lots to go π
I make wool dreads π Also if you install them using blanket stitch braiding it makes for a much shorter braid, I've seen pics of someone with shoulder length hair wearing chin length dreads.
Good luck with the extending though π
Yeah I'm going to try the blanket stitch braids. My hair is currently near the small of my back and most of these dreads were shoulder length or less! By the time I've extended I'll have most of them to just below collarbone length π
I'm going to end up with 34 dreads I think, not sure if it'll be enough even with my undercut but we'll see.
Look forward to seeing them when they're done and installed π
