It turned black because your base was so dark. Washing with shampoo will probably get it brighter, but I'm not sure how much as I haven't used that dye.
I was able to get this color with Manic Panic Purple Haze applied to previously dyed Manic Panic Raven that was on pre-softened brown-black hair. My base was way darker than yours and I was able to get a nice "blackberry juice" color and it looked noticeably purple under bright light.
A lot of purples start out very dark if you use them undiluted, it should brighten up in a few washes - your base wasn't that dark...the only issue you could have is the reddish tones in your hair might make the purple a bit more burgundy
