The only time I shampoo is when I'm washing bleach out of my hair before I re-dye, other than that I only co-wash.
I went on a night out and used hair spray to keep my hair up. The only way I could remove the residue was with shampoo so I went and bought Superdrug's own baby shampoo in a bid to find the mildest one I could.
It was a nightmare, my hair was so so dry and frizzy afterwards despite deep conditioning and I now have a load of split ends that weren't there before. I'm absolutely gutted, my hair felt lovely before that and was so easy to style and now it looks and feels horrible π
I've got some k-Pak in a bid to salvage what I can.
It seems a bit strange that all this damage would be caused by a bit of hairspray and a shampoo... Maybe it just made your hair a bit more frizzy but all in all your hair is in really good condition?
My hair hates shampoo and goes frizzy, poofy and really dry looking, but it doesn't make my ends split. I am wondering if you have been using a conditioner with silicones that has been masking the damage and the shampoo removed it and revealed what the conditioner was hiding?
The most likely thing is, you've had a certain amount of split ends anyway but not noticed them until you started looking harder and more critically when it felt bad.
What conditioner do you normally use? If it has silicones it is possible that they've been smoothing them out more. Whether you had any to begin with or not though, the hairspray could have just really dried your hair out in combination with the baby shampoo. I hate baby shampoos, most of them aren't mild at all which is absolutely ridiculous since they're meant for babies! I'll never use baby shampoo on my kids, ever. Anyway though, it does sound like the hairspray and shampoo just really, really dried your hair out a lot and your hair just couldn't handle the dryness. Since I've bleached my hair it responds very differently to drying things than it did when it wasn't. I had this same thing happen to me after doing a vitamin c treatment this past winter, I had a ton of split ends after! I was so mad! The best thing to do is to cut them off though with some sharp shears so they don't get worse.
