I often sleep with my hair covered in coconut oil but it takes me forever to rinse it out in the morning! I've tried shampooing and conditioning but it takes so long and when my hair is dry there's often some oil left, leaving it looking really greasy π How can I rinse it all out in one go?
Wet it with hot water and slather it in conditioner. Rub a dub dub π
Conditioner washes out oil better than shampoo.
I usually go crazy with a cheap conditioner, rinse, then a little shampoo, then condition and rinse as normal.
Can I just pop in to ask a question about oils in general? Whenever I slather my hair with some kind of oil, I always wonder if half of the benefits and moisture I am giving to my hair is going to be all in vain once I've washed it off, especially since you need a good wash to take the oil away like kmem said...
Coconut oil is absorbed into the hair, so shampoo won't wash it straight out. I generally rub some conditioner in before i get it wet, then just do my regular CO wash to get it out, no shampoo because my hair and scalp hate it.
Whenever I have used coconut oil over night my hair seems to feel cleaner after washing???? I just do my usual wash as well.
Ah thank you! I'll try the conditioner first then π maybe I should put less on too, I always put loads on!
If you can find "European" conditioner, it is soooo good for getting coconut oil out! Walmart carries it. It's like $3 for a gigantic bottle. I will co-wash my hair twice to get it clean(I wash my hair twice with shampoo too, have to), as I have A LOT of hair, three washes will usually get my coconut oil out! Coupled with very hot water and a detachable, adjustable shower head on pressure wash, lol.
Don't worry about how much you put on, I slather mine too. My hair pretty much drinks it.
Definitely conditioner! If I shampoo my hair dries all crispy!!
Try applying neat shampoo to break into the oil first, and gradually add warm water and slowly lather. We were taught this in salon for greasy hair, remember water just runs off oil, you need to break into it and use warmer water
Does the coconut oil strip colour at all?
A little, in my experience. Probably no more than hairspray though, it's not as stripping as a sulfate shampoo or anything
