Tigi Dumb Blonde Reconstructor - moisture or protein?

My hair is bleached white and over winter it's got so so dry. I co-wash most of the time (unless I'm shampooing out bleach or need to tone) and I use a Garnier Ultimate Blends conditioner as my wash conditioner.

I got some of the Dumb Blonde Reconstructor as I need something heavy to put some moisture back into my hair and I have K-Pak as my protein treatment.

I've found that after using the Dumb Blonde, my ends feel pretty dry and cheaper thinner conditioners give me a better end result. Which got me thinking, although it's a 'Reconstructor' I always thought that Dumb Blonde wasn't really a protein treatment as such as was more of a intense conditioner.

Am I getting the dry hair feeling because it's actually got too much protein or is it just not that good at conditioning?

There's a really good chance you've over done the protein.

The reconstructor has as least two forms of protein. I have no idea how much that really means though! Anything called a reconstructor tends to have a fair amount of protein though. It also has two forms of silicone too...

I can tell you though, be careful. I knew that my hair can't take much protein and I recently over did it. My hair went really dry and started breaking off so much. It might be worth washing your hair with a clarifying shampoo a few times and giving it a good deep condition to see if that helps. That helped me a lot.

That reconstructor is definitely a protein treatment

That might explain it then, I've been using it each time I wash my hair (once a week) as my finishing conditioner.

My hair is bleached to death though so I guess I assumed it would need the protein if it were a protein treatment. I'll stick to my normal conditioners for now then.

Yeah, my hair is highly damaged, but if I carefully use protein once every few weeks it works well. More than that and I'm in breakage city! It took me a while to work out a few years ago that I had to be sparing with it. I've never used conditioners with protein in them. Before I used olaplex I could hardly use it at all, some how the olaplex has made my hair able to take it and have benefit from it. But still very sparingly!

Protein should always be followed by a moisturising treatment.
Some hair types respond well to protein, others do not despite being bleached/damaged. Too much protein can definitely cause brittleness and breakage. You need to find the right balance of protein to moisture
